He just uses his innate abilities (genius intellect, physical prowess), acquired skills (martial arts), and billionaire resources (high-tech equipment, a laboratory, and probably a kickin' Bat Gym) to keep him at the top of his crime-fighting game.

SIXTEEN NONPROFIT LEADERS GRADUATE FROM AWARD-WINNING PROGRAM
In May 2018, 16 leaders from nonprofit organizations across the Cape recently graduated from Year 2 of the Institute for Nonprofit Practice's (INP) award-winning Core Certificate Program. In 2016, the Foundation helped form a first-ever funder collaborative to underwrite the cost of this intensive program, part of the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University. The nine funders who have powered-up the classes are: Arts Foundation of Cape Cod; Bilezikian Family Foundation; The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation; The Cape Cod Foundation; Cape and Islands United Way; Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation; Cape Cod Healthcare Community Benefits; Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation, and the Edward Bangs Kelley and Elza Kelley Foundation. The third class will begin in October.

FORD FOUNDATION OFFICER SPEAKS AT EDUCATION EVENT
In May, Marissa Tirona, Program Officer for the BUILD initiative of The Ford Foundation,
spoke to donors, funders, and nonprofit leaders at The Cape Cod Foundation's annual education event. Just about a year ago, the Think Tank at The Ford Foundation, one of the largest charitable foundations in the world, rolled out the BUILD initiative, a five-year, $1 billion investment in the long-term capacity and sustainability of hundreds of social justice organizations around the world. The initiative came on the heels of a study conducted by the Bridgespan Group, a Boston-based management consulting firm to nonprofits and philanthropists. The group reported that over 50% of the 300 Ford Foundation grantees examined were not financially stable enough to continue running their programs effectively for the long-term. While the scale of The Ford Foundation's capacity-building work is much larger than ours here on the Cape, the goal is the same: to expand the impact of the nonprofit organizations we support.

RECORDING-BREAKING YEAR
FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
This year, The Cape Cod Foundation awarded over $500,000 in scholarships, breaking the half-million mark for the first time. More than
140 gifted students received support from 83 active scholarship funds, totaling over $10 million in principal.
We honored many of the recipients at our Annual Scholarship Awards in June. The event gives the students the opportunity to meet the scholarship funders.

The Cape Cod Association (CCA), a supporting organization of the Foundation, awarded $440,000 in scholarships to 297 students from Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyards, and Nantucket. The CCA, established in 1851 by a group of successful gentlemen with ties to Cape Cod, is one of the oldest and largest independent scholarship funds in New England.

THE FALMOUTH FUND RECEIVES $100,000 GIFT:
MATCHING CHALLENGE BEGINS!
The Falmouth Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation has received a $100,000 gift from the Willett Foundation Fund. Sharon Nunes, Chair of The Falmouth Fund, recently announced that $50,000 will directly support grants to local organizations in the Fund's 10th anniversary year of 2019 and that the additional $50,000 will establish the Willett Foundation Fund Challenge. The dollar-for-dollar matching challenge, which began June 1, is intended to encourage donors to invest in the future of Falmouth. Since 2010, The Falmouth Fund has awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to more than 70 nonprofits serving the community.

The Cape Cod Foundation actively builds discretionary funds to help local nonprofit organizations reach the next level of operational, programmatic, financial or organizational maturity. We also invest in nonprofit leadership development opportunities, partnerships with broad regional impact and projects that bring vital, shared resources to the nonprofit community. This initiative is part of our civic leadership strategy,
Cape Cod 2020: A New Vision for our Community, to make our community stronger. The Foundation intends to raise an additional $1 million dollars by 2020 to support capacity-building projects and programs and initiatives that promote Youth Development across Cape Cod every year...and for years to come.
