Dear Neighbor,
Happy holidays! Normally, I would be planning a big celebration with my family. However, with San Antonio hitting 100,000 cases this past Friday and nearly 30% of these cases coming in the last month, my parents and I are going to celebrate a little differently this year: with masks and 6 feet of distance between us.

I encourage you to celebrate safely, too. With COVID cases rising in San Antonio, our community health depends on each of us celebrating responsibly. Here are some ideas for alternative ways to celebrate:

  • Organize a virtual get-together on Zoom or FaceTime

  • See the lights adorning less populated sections of the Riverwalk, like the Museum Reach

  • Make ornaments you can hang on the District 7 Holiday Trees at Nani Falcone and Woodlawn Lake Parks (no glass ornaments, please!)

  • Take a drive and see the lights in your neighborhood

You can also find safety tips on the City's COVID-19 website.
In recognition of the holidays, the District 7 Office will close until January 6, 2021. If you need assistance during this time, please call 311. If you have an emergency, please call 911.

I look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
Yours in public service,
What Will It Take to Stop the Spread of COVID-19?
Ahead of the holiday season, the City of San Antonio has launched a new campaign entitled What Will It Take, which urges residents to take simple actions to slow the spread of COVID-19. Residents will see print advertising, radio, television, digital and social media across San Antonio all urging residents to do their part to contain the spread of COVID-19.

You're invited to take part in the City’s What Will It Take campaign by wearing you mask, washing your hands, and practicing physical distancing, especially during the holidays. The City’s community toolkit page has resources to help share this message across your social media channels, too. Ask your family and friends what will it take? Click here for a list of social media examples and hashtags to begin your message to family and friends.

Join the City of San Antonio in a unified message to slow the spread. With the holidays, we understand it’s difficult to stay away from loved ones and put family traditions on hold. Remember, you have the power to slow the spread of COVID-19… Do it for you, do it for your family and your loved ones and … DO IT FOR SAN ANTONIO.

Ringing in the New Year (Safely)
With New Year’s Eve approaching, here are some reminders:

Because of COVID-19, the San Antonio Parks Foundation has announced that the City’s annual New Year’s Eve fireworks show will be virtual this year. While there will not be an in-person celebration, residents can watch the Celebrate SA Show broadcasted on television and online which will include a 12-minute fireworks show and grand finale at midnight.

It’s important to remember that the use of fireworks in the City of San Antonio is illegal and can result in a Class C Misdemeanor, which can carry a fine of up to $2,000. But in addition to this, New Year’s Eve can be a difficult time for some of our neighbors, including our veterans, who may suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Also, don’t forget about our furry friends who can become very frightened by fireworks. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe this New Year’s Eve. Let’s keep each other in mind as we safely ring in the New Year.
