Will Chinese-made craft alcohol ever take off?
By Betty Richardson, Thats Shanghai

But as has been the case with China's craft beer movement and, increasingly, viniculture, the country's entrepreneurial landscape is proving potentially fertile ground for a new breed of premium spirits, both Western-style and Chinese.

Savage & Cooke Distillery is crafting a range of spirits on northern California's Mare Island
A winemaker turns to distilling and rejuvenates a historic naval base in the process. By Sara L. Schneider,

"We had to have compelling reasons to do this," he says, "reasons that would make our products unique." As they set up their barbecue to cook the fish in a park at Bothwell, an old town beside the Clyde River, his father-in-law, Max, produced a bottle of single malt Scotch whisky to celebrate.

Wishkah River Distillery represents
Northwest history
By Kelsey Norvell, Thurston TALK
It all started with an old family photo. Josh Mayr came across a picture of his grandfather standing in the Wishkah River during the early days of Grays Harbor posed with a bottle of homemade moonshine. With the idea tucked in his back pocket, Josh never could have imagined how something so small could change his entire way of life. ...After meeting with the then current owner, Sue Watts, in 2011, Josh began volunteering at Wishkah River Distillery. Not long after his initial...
