Judge Brett Kavanaugh represents a clear and present danger to our lives if the Senate confirms his Supreme Court nomination. He will further swing the court to the right and jeopardize abortion rights, health insurance for millions, same sex marriage, voting rights and affirmative action.
There have been significant court rulings on these issues over the years. Many were 5-4 decisions. Now, with Justice Anthony Kennedy's retirement, the next justice could be the deciding vote against cases dealing with these critical issues.
The anti-choice movement's strategy has been to pass extreme, restrictive bills in state legislatures. By pushing the legal limits, they hope these cases will be litigated and make their way to the Supreme Court. With Kavanaugh instead of Kennedy, who ruled in favor of Roe v Wade, the courts will be much more hostile to reproductive freedom.
It is possible that the court would rule in favor of a 20-week abortion or a ban after a heartbeat is detected. Chipping away at Roe, outright reversal will be more plausible.
Kavanaugh has already proved himself to be hostile to abortion. He ruled against allowing an undocumented teen access to abortion, which was her legal right. He has also ruled in favor of allowing employers to deny access to birth control under the guise of "religious freedom."
Roe v Wade has been the law of the land for the past 40 years, but there is no guarantee it will last forever. President Trump has made it his crusade to make abortion illegal.
We can't lose this fight and push women back to dark allies for abortion care.

Opposition to Breast-Feeding Resolution by U.S. Stuns World Health Officials

Even before Trump's announcement Monday that he had picked Brett Kavanaugh, a federal appeals court judge, advocacy groups had begun lining up for and against the nomination and said they would spend heavily to influence the outcome of what's expected to be a tumultuous confirmation process. One of the most prominent groups on the right, the Judicial Crisis Network, said it's prepared to spend as much as $10 million or more in a pro-Kavanaugh advertising campaign that includes targeting vulnerable Senate Democrats.

Campaign Pro's James Arkin, from Portage, Wis.: "It's an unusual message for any candidate, but the liberal Democrat from Wisconsin is sounding the alarm after Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer effectively declared the first-term senator a favorite to keep her seat in November by leaving her off their lists of top-tier Senate races. The Dark Money Behind Campus Speech Wars
In May, a new nonprofit group called Speech First sued the University of Michigan in federal court over its speech code, which it claims has a "chilling effect" on young Trump supporters. Speech First wants the university to ban any investigation into campus harassment, bullying, and "bias-related misconduct." It argues that these terms are defined so broadly that they restrict the free speech of campus conservatives. The university's speech code, the group contends, belongs in "communist China." It is also has ties to the Koch brothers.

Senate Confirms Lawyer for Russian Bank to Head DOJ Corruption Division
The Senate voted to confirm President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Justice Department's oversight of criminal cases involving public corruption. The choice was arguably a strange one. Brian Benczkowski, a lawyer with no experience as a federal prosecutor, whose last job involved representing a Russian bank closely tied to the regime of Vladimir Putin, was confirmed by a 51-48 vote. Every Democratic senator except Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted against him.

hacking of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign. The charges - the latest batch of indictments in special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation into Russian election interference - come days before President Donald Trump is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A Stone for Claude Lanzmann
On July 5th, as I was leaving Treblinka, one of the six death camps that Nazi Germany built in Poland to murder Europe's Jews, I learned that the man who most seared in the public mind the true memory of that cruelest engine of death had just died. Many of the stones in Treblinka's memorial of hundreds of stones are marked with the names of whole cities and towns, such as Warsaw, whose Jews, about 900,000 in all, were gassed there. Now another should be placed at Treblinka for Claude Lanzmann, the greatest guardian of Treblinka's memory.

Israel Plans Mission to the Moon Using Smallest Spacecraft to Ever Make the Journey
Israel's space division and an Israeli aerospace nonprofit announced Tuesday that a mission to the moon will launch in December. If successful, the country would become the fourth nation to land on the moon and the first to use a small spacecraft.
