Although the summer seems like it has just begun, before you know it parents will be shopping for back-to-school supplies and students will be asking for the newest and greatest backpacks. For many families, it can be a fun day of shopping.
For other North Penn community families, stocking up on backpacks, folders, binders, pencils, crayons, etc. for their children is a financial strain, even an impossibility. The North Penn School District (NPSD), the NPSD Educational Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County, and the Community Health & Youth Foundation have teamed up to help these families in need in the form of a backpack and school supply drive.
If you are able, I encourage you to donate to the North Penn Community Build-A-Bag Drive. It's so simple. If you are out shopping this summer and can pick up a few extra supplies, every donation is greatly appreciated. A full list of requested supplies and drop off locations can be found
here on our website. If you prefer to lend your support with a cash donation, you can do so by following the link above. You can also donate your time by helping to sort supplies and stuff backpacks at our sorting day on August 20. To register as a volunteer,
All backpacks and school supplies are distributed confidentially at the school level by guidance counselors who work regularly with our families. Families who want to be considered for assistance should contact their individual school. Historically, NPSD has distributed more than 200 backpacks to primarily the elementary schools. Over the past couple of years we have seen an increase for need at the middle school level. In addition, we always have filled backpacks available year-round for students joining the district throughout the school year.
The value of coming to school prepared to learn is immeasurable. I hope you will join me in helping to make the next school year a successful one for all children by contributing to North Penn Community Build-A-Bag.
Sincerely,
Curtis R. Dietrich, Ed.D.

The NPSD Board of School Directors approved a $260,247,826 Final Budget for the 2018-2019 school year at its action meeting Thursday, June 21, 2018. The budget includes a tax increase of 3.4 percent, equating to a $124 increase for the average NPSD homeowner.
"Administration and the school board have developed and approved a final budget that positions NPSD to meet current and future needs," said Dr. Curtis R. Dietrich, NPSD Superintendent. NPHS Students Place 1st in the Nation at National Future Business Leaders of America Conference
|
The Pennsylvania Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) held its annual National Leadership Conference in Baltimore, MD June 28 through July 1 and 12 NPHS FBLA team members attended to compete in various business-related events.
The NPHS chapter of FBLA is run by NPHS teacher Mrs. Linda Westerlund who was accompanied by NPHS teachers Mr. Glenn Westerlund and Mr. Ed Bovell to help lead the team in Baltimore. Once again, NPHS did an outstanding job at the FBLA National Conference and Competitions.
Of the 12 competing students from North Penn, four placed first in the nation in their events! These students and their respective event categories are as follows: Jared Huzar, Advertising; Chris Seiler, Coding and Programming; and the team of Tejas Priyadarshi, Chris Seiler and Neelay Vellingker, Mobile Application Development.
FBLA is the largest career student organization in the world. Each year, FBLA helps over 230,000 members prepare for careers in business. FBLA's National Awards Program, commonly called competitive events, recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Through state-based competition at the spring State Leadership Conferences, members compete in events that test their business knowledge and skills. Top winners in each state were eligible to compete for honors at the National Leadership Conference in Baltimore.
Congratulations to these students on their impressive achievements!

NPSD Board of School Directors Appoint Two Assistant Superintendents
|
Dr. Rufo and Dr. Bauer took an oath of office at the Montgomery County Courthouse, administered by Hon. Risa Vetri Ferman. Pursuant to the Public School Code, newly elected superintendents and assistant superintendents must take the oath before either the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education or a judge of the court of common pleas.
The NPSD Board of School Directors appointed two assistant superintendents at its action meeting on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Dr. Diane Holben, the current assistant superintendent, announced she is retiring from NPSD in August to begin a career in higher education.
As NPSD currently works to develop a strategic plan for the next three years, it became clear that two assistant superintendents were necessary. With the multitude of goals to be accomplished and the size of the school district, Dr. Dietrich and the school board felt the responsibilities needed to be shared by the two positions to propel NPSD forward.
At June's school board action meeting, Dr. Jenna Rufo, the current NPSD Director of Special Education and Student Services, and Dr. Todd Bauer, current North Penn High School Principal, were approved as the recommended candidates for the assistant superintendent positions. Effective, July 15, 2018, Dr. Rufo and Dr. Bauer will work together and in conjunction with the superintendent on the oversight of both instructional and other related needs of the school district.
