Fashion District BID Renewed for 8 Years!
The Fashion District BID has renewed for 2019-2026.
The City of Los Angeles confirmed the new BID was approved with 85.67% of the vote and will be able to continue providing cleaning, safety, marketing and advocacy programs. This includes additional safe and clean team members; increased focus on government advocacy for transit, safety and homelessness resources; additional marketing and media outreach; and economic development programs. The new BID boundaries will expand about a block east, between Olympic Boulevard and 16th Street.

Meet Your New Operations Director
Anthony Rodriguez joined the Fashion District BID team as the new Operations Director. In this role, he will oversee the day to day operations of clean and safe teams.
Anthony comes to the BID after a successful 14-year career as a security professional, most recently as the Director of Security for One California Plaza in Downtown Los Angeles. He has worked with the FBI, State Department, LAPD Major Crimes Division and Homeland Security. His experience includes facilitating training for LAPD metro units such as Hazmat, K-9, Bomb Squad and Special Operations Commander Tier I units of the US Navy and US Army.

Sanitation Cleaned Alley Encampment at 1013 S. San Julian St.
The Department of Sanitation cleaned the alley encampment at 1013 S. San Julian St. last month. This is the fifth major encampment clean-up in the district. The BID works around the clock to address homelessness and homelessness-related issues in the Fashion District, making an average of 100 calls per week to 311.
In the first half of this year, the BID clean and safe teams have performed
2,619 welfare checks
for homeless individuals and responded to
80 encampment-related fires
. In the first quarter alone, the BID removed
938 needles
from the public space, and cleaned-up
human waste 1,939 times
.

- Dama, 612 E 11th St. - The long-awaited, restaurant and bar, from the same team that of Scopa in Venice, is now open at City Market South. Dama draws influences from Central and South America, the Caribbean and Spain and features a multi-level layout with outdoor seating and expertly curated wine selection.

- Earlier this spring, Tuck Hotel renovated their restaurant space and unveiled a new dining concept focusing on vegetarian fare. The dinner-only menu can be paired with a selection of more than 35 wines.

Superfine,
City Market South at 11th and San Julian Streets
- Chef Steve Samson is expanding his presence in the Fashion District. Just steps from his popular restaurant Rossoblu, Samson is preparing to open Superfine - a pizza spot specializing in thin-crust. The restaurant is expected to open summer/fall 2018.

The Hoxton,
1060 S. Broadway
- The Hoxton Hotel is expected to open this fall at Broadway and 11th Street. This will be the fifth location for the London-based hotel chain and the first on the West Coast. The boutique hotel will have 164 guest rooms, a spa, event space and multiple food and beverage venues.

West Elm,
938 S. Broadway
- The national modern furniture chain is expected to open its first Downtown Los Angeles location in the 11,000-square-foot retail space of the Broadway Palace apartments. The store is expected to open this fall.

CVS, 1026 S. Broadway - Signage announcing the opening of a CVS at the corner of Broadway and Olympic Boulevard appeared on the side of Broadway Palace. This will be the second CVS to open in the Fashion District. There is currently a location at 7th and Spring Streets. It is expected to open in the fall.

Housing Freeze Proposed on November Ballot
In November, voters will be asked to vote on the California Local Rent Control Initiative. Proposition 10 would repeal the Costa Hawkins Rental Housing Act, which limits the ability of city and county governments to enact stronger rent control laws.
The proposed ballot initiative to drastically expand California's rent control laws has been filed by the same proponents of Measure S. You'll recall Measure S was defeated last November for being drastically opposed to development.
The proposal is being packaged as a solution to California's housing problems. In reality, rent control rules have helped ensure the investment in rental residential properties and without them experts fear residential development will come to a halt. Opponents of Prop 10 say that a housing freeze will worsen California's housing affordability crisis.

Veterans and Affordable Housing Act (SB3)
The Veterans and Affordable Housing Act (SB3) is a bond measure that will go before voters in November 2018. This affordable housing act will issue a $4 billion bond to address the affordable housing crisis. It promises to help build affordable homes for veterans, working families, persons with disabilities, Californians experiencing homelessness and others struggling to find a safe place to call home. This bond measure is expected to create 137,000 jobs and pump $23.4 billion into California's economy.
