Interfaith Hospitality Network of Ocean County is raising awareness of homeless families with children right here in Ocean County.

Carboard Box City will take place at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 1528 Church Road, Toms River on Friday, September 21, 2018 starting at 4:00 p.m.

This is an ideal civic activity for groups, Scouts, families, congregations and corporate teams.

Contact IHNOC at 732-736-1550 or visit the website to obtain participant and sponsor information.  Start your pledge today.
Do You Have Some Time to Donate to Your Church?

We have come up with a list of several repairs/improvements that we feel can be completed by our members. Some of them require experience, but many just require a good attitude and your time. They range from pulling weeds to power washing the
walk and benches in the memorial garden. There are two lists posted on the bulletin board outside the church office. One lists items needed for the manse renovation and the other lists items for the annex, the sanctuary building, and the landscaping.

We're not looking to create a buildings and grounds committee. We simply want some
volunteers to come out and work on your own schedule for as much time as you have
to donate. The church owns much of the equipment needed (a power washer for
instance). Please contact Nancy Stout (318-436-9865 -cell) or [email protected]
for more information.

Church Picnic
picnic

The picnic will once again be held at Riverfront Park, Point Pleasant Boro, on August 26 from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.

Worship with Communion begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by the picnic under the Pavilion. There will be food and games (including the playground). Attached to the Maxson Avenue Municipal Beach, this facility has a beach area that can be used for fishing or crabbing.

We ask that you sign up to bring either an Appetizer, Salad or Dessert. You can email Kerry at [email protected] and let her know how many and what you will bring or look for the yellow sign up sheet in the Narthex.

As in years past, we will make every effort to reach our goal of 100 people to sign up.

AMPED Vacation Bible School - Live Fully Alive!

Next month our exciting VBS program will be here.  We have 15 kids signed up but know of a few that still need to register.  Please don't delay.  AMPED VBS is designed for children who have completed grades K-5 and for preschoolers 3 - 5 years old. Vacation Bible School begins on
Monday, August 13 through Friday, August 17.

Hours are 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m.

Thursday  night August 16th, will be our parent program so mark that date on the calendar.  In addition a  Mission Project is planned.  We will supply special items for backpacks (i.e. pajamas, pillow pets, pillow buddy, stuffed animal, blanket, child's book) to be given to temporarily homeless children who participate with their families in our Interfaith Hospitality Network.  The congregation will also be invited to help with this project too.

Cost: $20 for your first child, $5 for each additional child. You may download the online registration and return it, with your check, to the church office.

If you'd like to spark your child's enthusiasm to grow in faith over the summer, please register now for this exciting opportunity at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church!

How Can you help?  Bins are in the Narthex for anyone who wishes to make donations of drinks and individually wrapped snacks for the week.  Donations have been slowly coming and we are very appreciative.

In addition, if you know of any teens that are great with kids and willing to help especially in the area of song motions, we would love to have them join us.  Service hours for the week can be given out.  Teens are asked to call the church office if they can help that week.

20 Ways to Honor God This Summer

Ahhhhh, summertime.
It's a time of backyard barbecues and homemade ice cream. A time for splashing in the water and basking in the sun. A time for road trips to see the Grand Canyon, and Grandma, too.

And, what a marvelous time to behold the natural beauty all around us and make it a special point to honor our Creator, our Savior - our God.

To help in that regard, we offer these 20 simple suggestions of ways to pay tribute this summer to the one who deserves all glory and praise:

1. Sit outside in the cool of the morning and meditate and pray.
2. Give anonymously to someone you know who is struggling financially.
3. Read through the book of Psalms aloud.
4. If it has been a while since you had a child in your house and you are missing the stomp, stomp, crash of little feet ... borrow some kids for a day from their harried parents. Take them outside and show them how to have fun unplugged from electronic devices.
5. Write a letter of encouragement to a missionary or a member serving in the military overseas.
6. Stay home, save gas and skip eating out one night, and donate the money to a soup kitchen or another  ministry that helps the homeless.
7. Put together a family prayer list.
8. Send a thank-you card and a gift certificate to that older member who greets you with a warm smile and handshake each Sunday.
9. Make it a point to think about others. Overcome your self-focus.
10. Don't just take a good book to the beach - take the Good Book.
11. Visit someone who shaped your life spiritually and thank them.
12. Bake cookies for Vacation Bible School.
13. Make a list of 10 ways God has blessed your life this year. Pick two or three and make them a blessing in somebody else's life.
14. Stop what you are doing in the afternoon and just think about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
15. Pay the toll or the lunch bill for the car behind you in line.
16. Write or call a favorite childhood teacher to let that person know how your life turned out and how much you owe him or her.
17. Make a list of New Year's resolutions that you didn't have time for in December. Complete them over the next six months.
18. Pick up the phone and call a couple of people just to tell them you are thinking of them.
19. Treat each day as a special gift from God and thank him for your many blessings.
20. Make a list like this of your own, only better.

The Big Cover Up is Completed

This Sunday during coffee hour or the next time you are over at the church take a look at the ceilings in the Chittick and Fellowship Room.

Jon Ipock and his crew from ProTastic Painting did a fantastic job painting and repairing the ceiling damage from the leak.  We are glad to recommend them for any of your own personal painting needs.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this major improvement.
