CEO Message to the Community
Friend!

Good morning. Monday in Israel was an intense day. During the late afternoon, Israelis celebrated the 70 th anniversary of Israeli independence and watched the festive opening of the new United States’ Embassy in Jerusalem. At the same time 40,000 people along the border between Israel and Gaza demonstrated in what many Palestinians call Nakba Day – a day of rage, which resulted in the death of at least 61 Palestinians and thousands more injured. Please find below a number of opinion editorials on this subject from a variety of sources. To quote my colleague, Barry Shrage/President of Combined Jewish Philanthropies in Boston, " I pray for the day when Hamas cares more about the future of the Palestinian people than the end of the Jewish state."

I attended Federation Beneficiary Agency UD Hillel's Annual Meeting & Celebration on Monday evening. It was wonderful experiencing firsthand the difference we are making in enriching the lives of Jewish undergraduate students so they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. Yasher koach to UD Hillel President, Sheryl Kline and Executive Director, Donna Schwartz.

On Tuesday morning I attended a JCRC Fed Talk with the ADL's Robin Burstein on the rise of Anti-Semitism locally and abroad. We value our ongoing relationship and strategic alliance with ADL in our collective efforts of dealing with hate.

Federation's Allocations Committee met on Wednesday evening to review and formalize recommendations to present to the Board of Directors later this month. We appreciate the leadership of Co-Chairs, Robin Kauffman Saran and Russ Silberglied, as well as the Committee for their guidance and assurance in meeting the increasing demands of our local and global community.

Our Israel & Overseas Committee also met on Wednesday evening to review and celebrate the past year's achievements. We thank the leadership of Co-Chairs, Michelle Margules and Gael Syzmanski, the Committee and Community Shlicha , Dana Berman, for building a living bridge between Delaware and Israel.

Federation's Create A Jewish Legacy Program hosted Jordon Rosen, Director and Shareholder at Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, who presented, Estate Planning Strategies for Leaving Your Legacy . We thank Jordon for providing the community with this invaluable information and resource.

I will be meeting with our Beneficiary Agency Executives later this morning as part of our monthly Agency Round Table meetings. It provides an effective platform for improving and enhancing inter-agency communications and collaboration.
