Pride Week in Paradise
Mayor Dan Bobbett declared July 15 - 21 as Pride Week in the Town of Paradise. The Town supports the tradition of Pride Week to help maintain visibility for members of the LGBTQ communities in the Town and province. This week provides an opportunity for us to celebrate our differences, while recognizing that we become enriched when different voices, experiences, and identities are respected and represented. To help celebrate Pride Week, we have also painted picnic tables at Town Hall and Paradise Park in Pride Colours for the public to enjoy.

We encourage residents to celebrate the values of inclusion and respect this week and all year-round.
Topsail Road Detour for Paving Operations Update
Residents are advised that due to weather conditions, the Topsail Road detours originally planned for the week of July 16 have been rescheduled for the week of July 23. Effective Monday, July 23, the following detour routes are in place on Topsail Road, in the area from St. Thomas Line to Carlingford Street (see map for detour routes):
  • In the morning, eastbound traffic will flow through Topsail Road until 9 a.m., at which time eastbound traffic will be detoured through Spracklin Blvd.
  • Westbound traffic on Topsail Road will be detoured through Carlingford Street throughout the day. In the afternoon, starting at 4 p.m., the additional detour will close, and westbound traffic may proceed through Topsail Road.

These detour routes are needed to accommodate the final paving operations of the Phase IV Topsail Road Widening project. They are expected to be in place for approximately one week. The Town has several traffic calming measures in place along the detour routes. During construction, the public is reminded to proceed with caution and to reduce speeds in construction zones and detour routes.

Korean War Ceremony
The Korean War began on June 25, 1950, and the active fighting ended on July 27, 1953 with the signing of the Korea Armistice Agreement. Approximately 7,000 Canadians continued to serve in tense operations between the signing of the Armistice and the end of 1955. Each year a memorial is held on the last Sunday in July to remember those who lost their lives and to honour the bravery of our Canadian soldiers.

Join us Sunday, July 29 at 10:55 a.m. at the Town Hall War Memorial as we honour and remember our Canadian heroes who served in the Korean War. For more information and to lay a wreath during the ceremony, please call 709-782-6290 or email.
