The market is in the 300 - 500 blocks on Thursday from 4:30 - 7:30 PM with fresh produce, baked goods, food vendors, crafts, music by Aaron Stevens, and more. The Jefferson St. Farmers Market is organized by Downtown Partners, Inc. and supported by Two Rivers Bank & Trust.
Catch the excitement of the 36th annual Snake Alley Criterium on Memorial Day weekend! The fun begins on Friday afternoon, May 25 with the Burlington Road Races. The Criterium races begin at 8:30 Saturday morning, May 26, in downtown Burlington, with the final Category 1/2/Pro race at 3:40 PM. Hundreds of athletes from around the country will compete for thousands of dollars in prizes. The popular kids' races and Cobblestone Climb will take place at noon. Beginning this year, the Criterium will have a new course that includes a portion of Heritage Hill and a long straightaway on Jefferson. What:  Find great deals and support the library by shopping at the Friends of the Library's Used Book Sale. This event features books, magazines, and audio/video items for all ages. It also has a collectors' corner for older and more unusual finds. All proceeds are returned to the community by supporting library programs and services. May 18 from 10 AM - 5 PM is a members preview sale with memberships starting at only $10, sold at the door. May 19 from 8 AM - 5 PM is open to all shoppers. What:  Some of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history have taken place in schools, from Columbine High School in 1999 to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February. That has led school districts and law enforcement to step up efforts to protect students in school. We will take a closer look at those efforts in Des Moines County and see what more can be done with the help of a panel of local experts. Our expert panel will be moderated by TSPR's southeast Iowa correspondent, Jason Parrott.
