This Sunday, July 15; 11:30 a.m.
Join us for part 2 of a special showing of the DVD series Christianity: the First Three Thousand Years in the Chapel following the 10 a.m. service. The series will run for consecutive Sundays through August 12. Each installment stands on its own so please join us for any or all of these.

This film series is the companion to the book by Diarmaid MacCulloch studied in EfM year 3. EfM (Education for Ministry) is a distance learning program that aims to increase understanding, deepen faith, and strengthen ministries.

The Holy Comforter Challenge

Dear Friends,

Recently, you were contacted by Father Jon Strand about the urgent need to meet the "challenge" of Holy Comforter's 2018 budget shortfall. Father Jon referenced the likelihood that we will have to reduce or eliminate support for our Outreach ministries. One of those is the Samaritan Ministry that supports the homeless in our local area. If we fail to meet this challenge, Holy Comforter will not be able to help support the full-time Samaritan Ministry caseworkers. Thanks to Holy Comforter's $8000 per year, these caseworkers:
  • Find affordable and safe housing for the homeless men, women, and children
  • Prepare candidates for employment opportunities through the STRIVE program
  • Address emergency food and medical needs
  • Offer access to computers and a safe address where the homeless women and men can receive their U.S. mail
Samaritan Ministry is one of the most effective organizations truly doing God's work to support our brothers and sisters in Christ, who, unlike all of us, will not have a roof over their head this evening. The challenge continues. Please click HERE to make your donation today.

Sincerely,

Candace Dibblee
Chair, Church of the Holy Comforter Samaritan Ministry

Pennywise Thrift Shop
Like Pennywise on Facebook!
Find us on Craigslist too!
The Pennywise Thrift Shop in Vienna is a treasure trove of clothes, household items, jewelry, hats, books, and much more at unbelievably reasonable prices! Revenues from the shop fund a variety of ministries and activities within our parish as well as numerous community charitable programs and services.

Volunteers do all of the work at the shop, and we always need volunteers. Shifts vary by type of work:
  • Desk/cashier: usually work a two-hour shift, which can be once a month or more depending on your availability.
  • Sorters: Volunteers sort all donations. Shifts can be as short as 1 hour and coordinated with the Day Chair.
  • Pricers: Volunteers price items that are chosen for the shop based on preset guidelines. Shifts can be as short as 1 hour and coordinated with the Day Chair.
  • Stocking racks and shelves is done while pricing and sorting to keep everything moving.
  • Porch Patrol: Volunteers sign up for one or more week shifts during a year and move donations from the porch afterhours into the shop.
  • Youth Service Opportunities: Students can earn service hours. Shifts coordinated with the Day Chairs.
To volunteer, please contact Mary Coulombe. Want more information? See the Holy Comforter website HERE. Find us on Facebook HERE. Track special items on Craigslist HERE.
