Lovejoy High School

A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 08 20 18

P arents and Guardians,

Happy 1st Day of School! I know today can bring excitement, angst, and a whole spectrum of other emotions both for parents and kids.  Whatever you and your student were feeling this morning, I truly hope that both of you had a great day.

One of my favorite things about our first day of school is the Senior Breakfast and Senior Walk. The event is a great way to honor our Seniors, and this morning was no exception. Lovejoy parents are an amazing group who give their time and resources so that our students have an incredible experience. I want to say a special "Thank You" to all who helped make this morning such a memorable one.

In addition to students going to their new classes and meeting their new teachers, we engaged in a couple of drills today to promote student safety.  This morning we had a fire drill, and this afternoon teachers practiced an informal lock down drill in their 5th period class.  Both of these were done as first day practices to make sure students know these safety procedures.  Teachers and students did a great job, and we will continue to teach and practice these throughout the school year.

As you visit with your students tonight, please don't hesitate to share with us any concerns you may have, or positive feedback to know that what we are doing is working. Student principals and counselors are:

Bruce Coachman -  [email protected]  - Assistant Principal for Academic Support of students whose last name begins with the letters A-K
Julie Hirsh -  [email protected]   - Assistant Principal for Academic Support of students whose last name begins with the letters L-Z
Jeff Roberts -  [email protected]  - Assistant Principal for Behavioral Support of all students
Teresa Dodson -  [email protected]  - Associate Principal over Curriculum and Instruction
Amanda Breeden -  [email protected]  - Counselor for students whose last name begins with letters A-F
Lissa Testa -  [email protected]  - Counselor for students whose last name begins with letters G-K
Janet Richardson -  [email protected]  - Counselor for students whose last name begins with letters L-Pa
Nancy Schweikhard -  [email protected]  - Counselor for students whose last name begins with letters Pe-Z

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

Parent Drop Off and Pickup
The drop off and pick up point for students is on the North side (or rear) of LHS. There is no student pick-up in the front of the school as this area is for buses only. Please do not park in the front LHS parking area to pick up your students. Click here for the Traffic Flow Diagram.

Parents should enter using the West entrance (closest to Angel Parkway) and proceed around the back of LHS. Traffic during the first few days of school is always heavier so please be patient as you wait in line.

Student Parking
Student drivers must have a parking permit to park at LHS. If your student needs to purchase a permit, click here for detailed instructions.

New! Lovejoy Senior Requests Assistance with Senior Project
A message from Lovejoy Senior, Alexandra Brungardt:

"As an incoming senior, I have selected a project that is close to my heart. There is a "Toy Closet" at the Cancer Hospital from which patients can choose an item to help during their stay. I want to stock the Closet with as many toys as possible.  In order to purchase toys for the closet, donation bins will be placed at each of the schools and the red building. These bins will be collecting gently used Lovejoy Spirit Wear. Once collected, the spirit wear will be sold and the money used to buy Toys for the Closet.

The toys will be donated in memory of Walker Jack Rainey.

I can be reached at [email protected] with any comments or questions.  Thank you for your generosity."

Tom Landry Classic - Saturday, September 1st

As another school year rolls around, we are asking our parents, students, teachers, and community members to join the LHS PTSA. Last year, we had over 560 members join. We received many distinguished awards from Texas PTA and look forward to exceeding this number this year. We appreciate everyone who takes the time to join and to donate. Your support helps us to continue bringing meaningful programs to all of our students and have a voice in state and national PTA issues.

Thank you,
Amy Holden

School Supplies
Compiling a list of common items needed for Lovejoy High School is a bit difficult considering the diversity of classes that a typical student can take. Knowing that many of you may want to shop for school supplies before you receive the complete list from teachers on the 1st day of school, we invite you to click SUPPLIES to consult a spreadsheet that details what items are needed for each department. Please note that there are 5 tabs, one for each of the core subjects: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and LOTE.

While you're shopping for your school supplies, if you feel so inclined, we would welcome some contributions to a general supply of kleenex and hand sanitizer that can be shared campus-wide. We will place a collection box in the LHS Commons, and we appreciate for your generosity.
