Pursuant of Article IV, Section 1, of the Bylaws notice is hereby given that the Annual Meeting of the Members of St. Brendan the Navigator will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at 11:15 a.m. to conduct the following business:
1. To elect a Senior Warden for one year
2. To elect a Junior Warden for one year
3. To elect a Clerk for one year
4. To elect a Treasurer for one year
5. To elect one member to the Vestry to serve a three-year term
6. To elect one member to the Vestry to serve a one-year term
7. To elect Diocesan Convention Delegates and Alternates
8. To review and discuss the June 24th Parish Forum Survey findings.

Third Thursday Music Gathering July 19
Come and enjoy an informal evening of spontaneous and toe-tapping music next Thursday evening the 19th from 6 to 8pm at St. Brendan''s hall. Tom van Buren and Hank Whitsett of Mountainville Music are organizers of the musical gatherings, encouraging local musicians and others to bring their instruments, voices and songs, and join in the creative music that many of us look forward to each month.
Donations are gratefully accepted.

Women's Wilderness Trip: September 4-7, 2018
Join us at Camp Bishopswood, the Diocese of Maine's own summer camp, which offers the essentials of what we have loved about our time apart in the Maine woods: a beautiful natural location, a rustic, environmentally respectful facility and privacy for our group with canoeing, kayaking and hiking at our doorstep and good meals provided.
While this is a departure from the treasured remote wilderness of Katahdin that those who experienced it will never forget, we believe Bishopswood offers the key requirement for us: a place and time for spiritual connection to the creation and each other at a different level than our everyday island life provides.
Bishopswood is about an hour and a half drive from Deer Isle. The facility was built as a girls' sports camp in the 1930s and retains the flavor of that genre and time. The cabins are communal; many now have indoor plumbing -even hot and cold water! Additionally there are two shower houses with several toilets each. The handsome lodge houses the dining hall and separate attractive gathering area with piano and open fireplace.
Laura Gertner, part-time summer cook at the camp and year-round baker of delectable items sampled at the Lincolnville General Store, has agreed to cater our meals.
Here are the details:
- Reservations currently being taken.
- $100 deposit due by this Sunday July 15 (refundable until Aug. 1) will secure your place. Balance due Aug. 1st.

Eighth Sunday after Pentecost:
Our Gospel reading today is the account of the death of John the Baptist. This well-known story was remembered by the followers of Jesus and John. After this, Jesus' ministry moves ahead with even more urgency, causing rumors that Jesus was John raised from the dead.
In the first reading, David, having consolidated his political power, now consolidates the religion of Israel in his new capital of Jerusalem. He brings the Ark of the Covenant, which had led the people during the Exodus, to Jerusalem as the sign of God's presence in the midst of the nation. David leads the people in singing and dancing for joy in the presence of God. (This was a bitter sight to his wife Michal, daughter of Saul, whose kingdom was destroyed and replaced. Trouble lies ahead for David and the children he and Michal produce.)
Today we begin reading through the Letter to the Ephesians. This beginning portion summarizes the writer's theology of Christ and of our relationship with Christ in the Holy Spirit.
We gather as a people united in God. We too are sent into the world with the message of judgment and salvation. We too are called into the ministry of Christ with people in every age and time. Our gathering here is our time to remember who and whose we are and, in that remembering, to be filled once again with the life of Christ. Thus, we go forth proclaiming in our words and our lives the Good News of salvation.

We pray for the victims of gun violence-in our cities and towns, in our schools, in our places of worship, and in our homes.
We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country, remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, Graham, and Caleb.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
the summer chapel congregations of St. Philip's by-the-Sea, Fortunes Rocks and St. Martin's in-the-Field, Biddeford Pool. For the New England dioceses of Province One.
