Greetings NTMCA Members!
One of my favorite parts while serving as President is getting to know the members better. This past month at our monthly luncheon each of us shared our favorite hobby. Within our group we have gardeners, readers, runners, crafters, travelers, explorers, shoppers, music lovers, piano players, game lovers, writers, chefs, bakers, exercise lovers, encouragers to work out (I need to talk with her), golfers, decorators, dancers, drummers, worship leaders, nature lovers, an essential oils enthusiast, and a motorcycle rider. I found it quite fun hearing everyone’s answers; we do have other interests outside of work. : )

July Meeting - Location
Many thanks to Diane Cockrell for hosting our July meeting at the City of Decatur Civic Center earlier this month. The room was beautifully decorated red, white and blue – a great theme that fit perfectly with July. The food was fancy and delicious. And Diane didn’t stop there; she had multiple giveaways and a super cute photo booth! Following our meeting, Diane gave us a tour of the new hotel which is part of their Civic Center. Keep in mind, both the Civic Center and hotel have multiple meeting spaces and the hotel has 110 rooms available for group rates!

July Meeting – Special Guest
Marie Balthrop, secretary for the City of Wichita Falls and also the TMCA President, was our special guest at the July meeting. Decatur’s Mayor Martin Woodruff presented Ms. Balthrop with a Key to the City of Decatur. Following the presentation, Ms. Balthrop detailed some of what TMCA has completed in the last year: establishing a new scholarship (Sandra Withers Election Law Scholarship), raising $1800 for clerks that were personally affected by Hurricane Harvey, awarding $11,000 in scholarships and establishing a Strategic Plan Review Committee for TMCA. Ms. Balthrop stated that TMCA has helped her grow in so many ways and she encouraged meeting attendees to volunteer at the state level with TMCA.

The speaker for the luncheon, Tim Marvel, spoke on the topic, “Getting You from Here to There: Basic Building Blocks to Make Steady Progress”. During his presentation he encouraged attendees to participate in several exercises.
· During the first exercise, titled
‘UR Exercise’
he asked each person to list a few “You are ‘x’” statements, (i.e., smart, creative, shy, organized). He encouraged attendees with a quote from Les Brown that said, “Other people’s opinion of you does not have to be your reality.” According to Mr. Marvel’s brand, ’10 Seconds Daily’, he believes that if you change your thoughts, you can change the world.
· During the second exercise, titled
‘Calendar Exercise’
he asked each person to divide a sheet of paper into twelve blocks (one for each month) and to add under the particular month one’s vacation (yes, you need a vacation), and then add one’s work holidays, personal days, etc. This exercise helps one have at least one day each month in which to look forward to. During this exercise he also encouraged attendees to be present whereever and in whatever you’re doing.
· The third exercise encouraged attendees to make decisions today relating to future realities, since advance decision-making removes emotions.
· The fourth exercise was a goal setting exercise. He encouraged everyone to have an accountability partner since ‘you can’t do it on your own’.
Overall, I felt like Mr. Marvel’s presentation was thought provoking as well as action motivating. (My favorite exercise was the Calendar Exercise.)

July Meeting – Business
The Nominating Committee presented the FY 2018-2019 Slate of Officers as follows:
- Amy Shelley (Southlake) – President
- Monica Solko (Lake Worth) – Vice President
- Traci Henderson (North Richland Hills) – Treasurer
- Christine Green (University Park) – Secretary
- Erica McComis (Bridgeport) - Historian
FY 2018-2019 budget is being reviewed and will be sent to membership for their review at the beginning of August. It will be voted on at the September meeting.
Art Camacho
presented a report from the Records Management Seminar Reception Committee. The Committee requested additional funds for the event. Membership approved spending an additional $1,000 (if needed).

- TMCCP Records Management Seminar Reception - The Committee has done an outstanding job planning the event. I hope all of you can attend. It’ll be a great time to welcome seminar attendees from around the State while representing our chapter.

Come & Go Social

NTMCA, in conjunction with sponsors Underwood Law Firm, Municode/MCCi, Franklin Legal, and RCI is hosting a “Come and Go” social on
Thursday, August 9 at 5 p.m. The Ad-Hoc Committee invites you to join them and your fellow colleagues at Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout (located in hotel) where you can catch up with old friends, meet new friends, visit and discuss business practices with vendors, nibble on snacks and quench your thirst with refreshments.
The first 100 attendees receive a swag bag!
