250th hearing
Crossroads Executive Director Janice Selinger and past Chair Patrick Murray
NJ Senate committee hears perspectives on 250th

Crossroads was among several history and heritage organizations to testify at the July 26 hearing of the New Jersey Senate Committee on State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation at the Old Barracks Museum in Trenton. The committee sought expert testimony on ways to strengthen the state's historic preservation efforts, and how to prepare for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution.

"Work needs to be done now to position New Jersey to make the most of the attention we can gain through the 250th," said Crossroads Executive Director Janice Selinger as she outlined plans to assess historic site needs and raise needed funds. "We expect the competition for the heritage tourist's attention to be fierce during the 250th celebration, and we don't want New Jersey to miss out."

Past Board Chair Patrick Murray echoed New Jersey's potential, stressing the potential benefits of linking Crossroads sites under a common brand, with tourism-friendly themes based on Revolutionary events. "We can spark their imaginations with a visitor experience that will keep them coming back for more," he noted, "creating a lasting economic legacy for our state and local communities."

Visit our website for more about the hearing and to read Janice's and Patrick's full testimonies.  Legislation establishing the planning process of the 250th anniversary awaits NJ Governor Phil Murphy's signature.
Heritage Partners join, renew Crossroads memberships

Heritage Area Partners are at the core of the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area. While each location and organization tells its own story, together they form a tapestry of experiences that make an indelible mark on our communities and neighbors.

Scores of sites and historic associations across New Jersey are already benefitting from the enhanced visibility and educational opportunities that come with a Heritage Area alliance. The Crossroads team is here to help, whether your site is open seven days a week or not ready to receive visitors.

Heritage Partners get advance registration notice for events like our popular "Art of..." professional development series. Still in the planning stages, the upcoming October 2 workshop at East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway may include presentations on intriguing early American customs, hands-on workshops and tasty 18th century beverages.
