City Holiday Hours and Services: Monday, Jan. 18
All City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, libraries and recreation centers will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Senior centers remain closed due to COVID-19. The recycling center, transfer station and C.M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill will also be closed Jan. 18. Firewheel Golf Park will remain open.

The City's COVID-19 hotline number, 972-205-3900, will not be manned Jan. 18.

There will be no disruption in trash or recycling collection. Find your pickup schedule at My Garland. As a reminder, please have carts and material out and ready for pickup by 7 a.m. to ensure thorough and timely service.
Build Garland Day Celebrates Progress on 2019 Bond
On Build Garland Day, Wednesday, Jan. 13, the City backed a record investment from its residents with a record day of groundbreaking, sign-raising and celebration of new projects.

The largest bond program in City history was approved by voters in May 2019, and Garland is delivering on the $423.7 million program, even in a pandemic. City leaders made a socially distanced tour of five sites on Build Garland Day, with the public connected to the event via Facebook Live.

Sip, Shop and See at Thirsty Third Thursday
Celebrate Thirsty Third Thursdays in Downtown Garland from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21.

Applications Now Accepted for May 1 Ballot
The City of Garland will hold a general election on Saturday, May 1, to elect a Mayor and City Council representatives for Districts 1, 3, 6, 7 and 8.

Friday, Feb. 12, is the last day for filing an application for a place on the ballot. Candidate packets are available on the City Secretary’s webpage under “Elections.”

Candidates will be required to make an appointment with the City Secretary before delivering an application for a place on the ballot.
Garland Health Department Creates COVID-19 Vaccine Wait List
The Garland Health Department is registering individuals included in Phase 1A and Phase 1B for COVID-19 vaccinations as vaccine becomes available.

Phase 1A includes frontline health care workers such as firefighters, EMTs, school nurses and long-term care facility residents and staff. Phase 1B includes those age 65+ and those with underlying health conditions.

Updates will be posted to GarlandTX.gov/COVIDVaccine and to the City’s Twitter and Facebook pages as they become available.

Each provider distributing the vaccine may approach this process differently and with its own registration process. You may register multiple places. If you receive the vaccine through a different entity please email GPH@GarlandTX.gov so we may remove you from our wait list.
COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 3,596 active cases out of 21,887 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 193 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon.

Capital Improvement Program Special Work Sessions
Jan. 19 and Jan. 26
The Garland City Council will hold special Work Sessions regarding the Capital Improvement Program at 6 pm. Tuesdays, Jan. 19 and 26. There will be additional discussions at the Work Sessions and Regular Meetings on Feb. 1 and 2 and Feb. 15 and 16. Council is scheduled to approve this year's Capital Improvement Program at the Feb. 16 Regular Meeting.

District 4 Town Hall Meeting
Feb. 4
Join District 4 Council Member B.J. Williams for a virtual town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4. Meeting links and details are available at GarlandTX.gov.

Boards & Commissions Meetings
All upcoming Boards & Commissions meetings can be found on the Public Meetings calendar at GarlandTX.gov.

Due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions, the meetings will be virtual. You can watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.
