The annual Apple World Wide Developers Conference is an event where technology connects with creativity to bring incredible ideas to life. Thousands of talent minded students from around the world will participate in the conference to turn their ideas into reality, and students may apply for scholarships to attend this amazing event. This year, Trabuco Hills High School student  Erik Martin, was one of only 350 scholarship recipients! Good luck to Erik!
World No Tobacco Day
"World No Tobacco Day" is observed around the world every year on May 31. The Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) grant provides funding for programs in grades 7 through 12 for tobacco specific student instruction, activities, special events, intervention and cessation programs for our SVUSD students.

This year the poster contest was school site based with a youth development approach. Each intermediate and high school site held a Tobacco Use Prevention Poster Contest. All entries were voted on by their entire student body. There was one winner per school site and each were awarded a Surface Pro Tablet. The winning posters will be printed and displayed on their school campuses.

Congratulations to all 9 poster winners!

Learn about our Employees Appreciation Day
Learn about our Employees Appreciation Day (LEAD) is a new program that SVUSD has started this year. During Classified Employee Appreciation Week administrators shadowed a classified employee around for the morning to get up close and personal insight as to what they do on a daily basis. There were principals who become groundskeepers and office mangers, and district directors who worked as maintenance workers and clerical staff. After the morning shadowing, the staff who participated all gathered for a luncheon to share their experiences. The response to this program was very positive!
Mona Montgomery, Montevideo Principal, working with Groundskeeper, Noe Loeza Lazaro
Suzy McMasters, Linda Vista Principal, taking over for Farmer Kelly Roberts at Trabuco Elementary
Ozzy Cortez, Chief Technology Officer, with Mary Ann Brady, Student Service Technician at Mission Viejo High School

We are lucky to have such a dedicated group of educators who volunteer to provide crisis intervention to our students and families. The SVUSD Crisis Response team consists of 25 staff members, which include district and site administrators, school counselors, mental health counselors, psychologists and speech and language pathologists.
