Greetings!

This email is directed at any NFLPA-certified contract advisor interested in how the NFL draft works as well as the months leading up to the draft. Note: We are not endorsed, sponsored, or otherwise affiliated with the NFLPA.
Training Camp
Good morning. If you're receiving this email, it's because you're taking the NFLPA exam in about seven weeks. That's an incredibly exciting circumstance, and one you've perhaps been waiting on for years, maybe decades. I'm as excited as you are, and though it's incredibly cool that you're doing it, you should also be a little nervous.

Facts of Life: The NFLPA is, obviously, a big, powerful organization with lots of smart people. They only want smart people to become agents, so three years ago, they made the contract advisor exam considerably harder. It went from a test where you could pretty much show up, listen to the seminar leading up to the test, take good notes, and probably pass, to an exam where, if you didn't prepare, you're pretty much dead in the water. The failure rate is about 55 percent, and keep in mind that the people taking the exam are not a bunch of idiots. All of them have post-graduate degrees and most are attorneys who've passed their respective state bar exams, yet they couldn't pass a three-hour, open-book test. Not on the first try, anyway. As a result, about half the people you'll be taking the exam with in July will be on their second (and final) try.

Be not afraid: But that's OK. Right now, forget about that. Focus on the fact that we have about two months to get you right. There's a good chance you've already bought our study guide. It's also possible you've been working on our 52-question practice exam. If not, that's not a big deal. It's also important for you to know that we'll be taking that exam, adding a few questions, and turning it into two 40-question tests. This gives you a chance to test yourself, figure out where you need more work, study up, then test yourself again. We hope it becomes a foolproof way to prepare yourself for a really challenging exam.

In the meantime: We'll be talking about everything you need to know to prepare for the exam in the coming weeks. We'll have success stories, tips on the test, how to save money when you travel to D.C., and plenty more. We'll also touch on a few things about the business at large and try to dispel a few false notions that are all too common for people in your shoes. For example, we'll touch on the vagaries of recruiting, dealing with people in the business, the role of schools in the process, etc. There's a lot to know. At the same time, you have to have one focus until July, so that will be our focus, as well. And by the way, we're going to be encouraging, too. You are about to face a lot of challenges, but they won't come from us. We are on your side, and we want to help. That will never change as long as we're both in the business.

We're glad you're going on this adventure and we look forward to helping you achieve your goals. We call our blog Succeed in Football for a reason. That's the only reason we're here. Now, let's go do it!
