Come be part of the Gainsboro community by joining our volunteer Gardening Group. Produce from our garden goes to vital community support organizations, such as: The Rescue Mission, The Hope House and Apple Ridge Farms. Our produce also provides fresh fruit and vegetables for our youth and adult culinary education programs. We would love to have your support as a volunteer
86th Annual Father, Son & Family Banquet
Saturday, June 16

Hailed as the longest running YMCA event in Roanoke, the Father, Son and Family Banquet has been inspiring, educating and imparting values into families for over 85 years.

Y Dance
Ages 7-10 years old

Beginner Ballet
10:00-11:00 am
Future Ballerinas will learn about the history and technique of ballet.  Dancers will learn ballet skills, terminology, rhythm and coordination.  Dancers will also develop strength, flexibility, balance and the ability to travel through space, jump and turn in a fun and welcoming environment.
Tap/Jazz Combo
11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Students will be introduced to these American dance forms, learn the history and culture, and developing fundamental skills in these dance techniques.  Focal to tap instruction will be toe heel, stamp, stomp, step, hop, flap heel, flap ball change and traveling steps.  Focal to jazz instruction will be learning jazz fourth, isolation and jazz walks.  These skills will lead into practicing longer movement combinations in both tap and jazz.

Hip Hop
12:00-1:00 pm
Dancers will learn the history of hip hop and terminology while engaging their body in rhythm, coordination and style.  A fun environment of "breakin" and many cyphers will allow dancers to be expressive and master the art of hip hop.

Y Outdoor Summer Soccer
Ages 5-7 years old

Spark you child's love of soccer at an early age by having them participate in these summer soccer sessions.  Kids will develop skills in dribbling, shooting, passing and goalkeeping and will participate in organized games.
Little Chefs:  The Garden Chef
Ages 7-15 years old
Tues June 5 - July 10
M/NM: $60
Our future chefs will learn the steps of planting, gardening, harvesting and preparing fresh vegetables and fruits from our community garden.  This plot to plate process will develop fundamental culinary skills such as:  knife skills, sauteing, roasting, braising, baking and fresh preparations that will highlight the importance of healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.
