The Metro South Chamber and Eastern Bank will present the 20th Annual ATHENA Award during a special luncheon to an exceptional individual who has achieved excellence in his/her business or profession, has served the community in a meaningful way, and has assisted women in reaching their full leadership potential. The ATHENA Awards Program was created in 1982 and has expanded to over 500 cities in the United States, Russia, Canada, China, The United Ar ab Emirates and the United Kingdom. This year, the keynote speaker will be Secretary of the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, Rosalin Acosta. As Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development in Massachusetts, Secretary Acosta leverages her passion to make the world a better place for the next generation to ensure that workers, employers, and the unemployed have the tools and training needed to succeed in the Massachusetts economy. 

Prior to joining the Baker-Polito Administration, Secretary Acosta spent over thirty years in the banking industry and is known for her ability to drive positive performance outcomes aligned with a company's mission. She has been named one of Boston's Most Influential Women from the Women of the Harvard Club, El Planeta's Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics in Massachusetts, and Get Konnected's 100 Most Influential People of Color in Boston, to name a few.

SCORE Workshop - Business Startup Boot Camp

O W e dnesday, June 20, 2018 from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm at the Metro South Chamber of Commerce, 60 School Street in Brockton, SCORE will prese nt a Business Startup Workshop.  

The SCORE Business St artup Bootcamp provides an overview of what you need to consider when you are planning to start a new business. It is designed to help you go from business concept to "opening the doors". The Workshop starts at 9:00 am and ends about 3:00 pm, and consists of two sessions.

The Morning Session is a 3-hour interactive presentation, given by experienced SCORE counselors in each of the areas discussed. This session will give you a clearer understanding of what is necessary to run a business. Key Topics include:
   * Entrepreneurship: is it for you?
   * Is your business concept reasonable?
   * What is a business plan? How to decide if you need one? And key items to include.
   * Building your financial plan and options for financing your business.
   * Key questions about finding customers - how you'll market your business to get sales.
   * What business structure should you select?
   * What advisors do you need?
   * Other resources available to you.

The Afternoon Session has small roundtable discussions led by SCORE counselors, in which you can talk about the issues you are facing and get ideas on how to solve them.

The U.S. Small Busines s Administration reminds businesses of all sizes, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters in Massachusetts of the deadline to submit disaster loan applications for damages caused by severe storms and flooding on March 2-3, 2018. The deadline to submit applications for physical damage is July 3, 2018. Low-interest disaster loans are available in Bristol, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester in Massachusetts, and Providence in Rhode Island. * Senior Community Service Employment Program
 


The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is the only federal program specifically targeted to serve older adults seeking employment and training assistance. Authorized by Title V of the Older Americans Act (OAA), SCSEP started in 1965 with a goal to provide jobs, promote well-being, and meet community needs. The SCSEP is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

Senior Service America and Department of Elder Affairs administers the Massachusetts SCSEP program and contracts with Citizens for Citizens, Inc. (CFC) to recruit eligible participants in Bristol, Plymouth, and Hampden Counties; and prepare participants for unsubsidized employment.

2018 Book for Business: It's Here!


Look out for the Chamber of Commerce 2018 Metro South Book for Business! The book features area dining, lodging, public golf courses, recreation, legislative leaders, regional and economic data, and a complete membership listing. The book also includes a full color map of Metro South and highlights hotels, golf courses, industrial parks, and other points of interest.  

Five thousand copies of the Book are being distributed throughout the region to all Chamber members, banks, real estate offices, town halls, area colleges, libraries, legislators, and sent to all relocating businesses and families interested in the Metro South area. This year's Book design incorporates the Metro South regional branding colors, theme, and tagline "When Metro South is Home, Everything is Within Reach."
