Your formative years hold within them a small period of time in which your character traits, world perceptions and religious beliefs are first defined. It is an influential window that can alter the course of a young person's life from a path of mediocrity, to a path of divine influence. This is one of the reasons why The Barnabas Group ("TBG") supports Young Life. Young Life ministry believes in the power of presence during the formative years. They have witnessed the dramatic difference influence can have when caring adults come alongside kids, and help them to connect with the great worth, meaning and purpose their lives hold.
Impacting Hearts is a division of Young Life that focuses specifically on kids who are in foster care.
They work directly with the Department of Child and Family Services and Foster Family Agencies in order to introduce every child within the foster care system to Jesus Christ, help them grow in their faith, provide them with the sense of family they have been deprived of, and lead them toward self-sustaining adulthood.
Jay Panther, Area Director for Young Life/Impacting Hearts, recently described the amazing impact that our TBG Partners are having on their ministry:
"Randy and Melisa Lindros, Dan Streit, and Brian Prock have all decided to join the team! We had a meeting yesterday morning, and they are all praying about officially sitting on our board. They are focused on organizing our outreach into systematic processes that can be replicated and developed into a franchise model. Our TBG partners are invaluable resources as we aim to share Jesus with every foster youth and orphan!
In addition, Jeff and April Hanson held a fundraising night at their home. We invited every TBG partner who filled out a form during our presentation.
We raised $50,000!
TBG has become beyond important to what God is doing through our ministry. Our TBG SWOT was pivotal in getting the ministry off the ground. We now have 2 clubs meeting weekly, and 2 clubs meeting monthly. We also have Young Life directors all over the country who want to do what we are doing. As soon as our model development is finalized, we will be equipping people in other cities and states to start foster youth ministries."
