On the month that we are reminded of Dr. King’s emphasis on service, Queens Community House highlights Brian Martens, one of our volunteers for QCH’s Friendly Visiting Program. Just about two years ago, Brian found himself overwhelmed by life and work situations that he could not control. This led him to explore volunteer opportunities to give back, an effort that he’d have full control of while making a positive impact on the community.Clickhere to read the whole story.
Are you able to offer an hour of your time to help a young person learn about a career path or get some feedback on their career explorations?
QCH students need (virtual) opportunities to learn about different careers and industries. Volunteers from various sectors can participate in industry-focused career panels or talkbacks where you can engage with groups of students to discuss your career path. Also, volunteers can elect to help students evaluate their resumes and provide advice. Volunteers can commit to one-time service or ongoing assistance throughout the year.

QCH is looking to provide our students with an opportunity to meet with trade or culinary industry experts to hone in on the essential skills needed to be successful in the skilled trade or culinary industry.
Skilled industry professionals can volunteer an hour of their time to speak with students about their professional journey and share any hands-on skills that would help our participants excel in the skilled trade or food and hospitality sector. The sessions will be conducted virtually and at a time that is most convenient for you.
