A World Premiere Musical 

Snowlion Rep will be presenting a world premiere musical as the feature show of the upcoming season  - 
Mesmerized
  (by Al D'Andrea, MK Wolfe, and Darryl Curry).  
A  concert reading of this musical was seen at the first PortFringe, and the New Maine Times
called it  "a triumphant night of theater."




Set in 1777 Vienna, Mesmerized
is the true story of Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer, now regarded as the father of modern hypnosis, and the scandal that erupted in 1777 Vienna when he restored the sight of the young blind prodigy pianist Maria Theresa Paradies using t he radical curative technique and invisible force he called "animal magnetism." 
The show plunges the audience into Mesmer's world at the dawn of the Age of Reason, populated with characters including Mozart, Benjamin Franklin, the Queen Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, and others - all 100% true encounters had by the infamous doctor, presented in dramatic musical theater format (with an ample sprinkling of humor throughout).




The show will be presented at the Portland Ballet Studio Theater May 3-12, 2019, starring Alan Forrest McLucas as the infamous Dr. Mesmer.

Mark your calendars for a musical journey back to the 18th Century, in a show that crackles with an "Invisible Fire" (which is what Mesmer called the universal force he used to effect his cures).

PLAYLAB to premiere new Maine plays

PlayLab returns this season with new full-length plays by Maine playwrights, presented in rehearsed readings free to the public. 

OMNIPHOBIA was read at the last PlayLab - soon to receive a full production at Snowlion Rep!
 
We've received more PlayLab submissions than ever before, and we're currently evaluating scripts for inclusion in the upcoming season.

We'll keep you posted on what great new Maine plays will be coming to you this year!
 
Maine's Own Margaret Hamilton
in a New Play!

Did you know that Margaret Hamilton (the infamous Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz) lived on an island near Boothbay Harbor?


Learn all about this iconic actress and her amazing life in a Snowlion Rep fundraiser staged reading presentation of 

My Witch: The Margaret Hamilton Stories
by John Ahlin and starring New York's Jean Tafler.



It's not easy being green...
 
In this staged reading  of  My Witch , we explore t he amazing story of how a gentle kindergarten teacher from Cleveland scared the living daylights out of every last one of us...and the brains, heart and courage it took to be America's 
character woman.
