BREWSTER DAY CAMP          Newsletter    July 29, 2018        Vol. 36 Issue 15

Hello Brewster Day Camp!

We experience SPORTSMANSHIP everyday! SPORTSMANSHIP is conducting yourself with fairness, respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning and losing. A GOOD SPORT thanks their opponents in victory, and congratulates their opponents in defeat. Win or lose, a GOOD SPORT cheers on their teammates and lends a hand when someone is down. Everyday, GOOD SPORTS challenge their competitors and compete as hard as they can. At BDC, SPORTSMANSHIP is the key to competition and beyond!

As I walk around camp, I see SPORTSMANSHIP everywhere at BDC! As soon as they sign in, our Sailor's Hill campers demonstrate their SPORTSMANSHIP on the kickball field. SPORTSMANSHIP is demonstrated on Admiral's Hill by competing in games at Field Sports, and our youngest campers on Mariner's Hill learn how to be a GOOD SPORT on the MUGS Field. At BDC, campers of all ages role model their good sportsmanship every day. Xander teaches SPORTSMANSHIP at BDOC using team challenges on our low ropes course, ECP develops SPORTSMANSHIP at STAR through improv games, and the rest off the staff coach and demonstrate SPORTSMANSHIP during our Special Event Days every week!

This week's special event on Friday is Olympic Day! Campers and staff are organized into eight teams, each representing a different country. Countries will compete against each other in events throughout camp, and will be evaluated based on their team spirit and SPORTSMANSHIP! Remember to PLAY FULL, PLAY FAIR, and PLAY FUN!

You are never really playing an opponent. You are playing yourself, your own highest standards, and when you reach your limits, that is real joy.
