City of Birmingham, MI
Old Woodward Reconstruction Project Update 7/27/18
The Old Woodward Reconstruction Project is 95 percent complete as contractors start to wrap up their four month remake of downtown Birmingham on Old Woodward between Brown and Willits/ Oakland and a section of Maple Rd.

Crews are busy finishing paving of the new, wider sidewalk around the Old Woodward and Brown Street intersection. Weather permitting, it is anticipated that the work on the new sidewalks will be completed by the end of this week. Meanwhile, the new trees continue to be planted on the south end of the job. It is expected that the installation of the new trees will also be completed by the end of this week.

Looking ahead to next week, contractors anticipate they'll start painting the new pavement markings as well as continuing with the installation of the new streetlights. In addition, crews will seal and caulk the new sidewalks.

With the project on the cusp of being completed, the City is planning a grand re-opening celebration for Saturday, August 11th 2018 starting at 9:00 a.m. City leaders will mark the end of the project with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the intersection of Old Woodward and Maple, starting at 9:00 a.m. The public is invited to witness this historical moment as downtown's next chapter is ushered in. The celebration will continue with the annual Day on the Town shopping extravaganza, as city merchants display their wares for purchase. Day on the Town will run from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. with shoppers being among the first to walk on the new concrete street as well as see the new amenities in downtown Birmingham.

Birmingham Bonus Bucks must be turned in to the BSD office at City Hall, 151 Martin Street in downtown Birmingham, by August 15, 2018 for reimbursement.
