Spring, Summer and Fall Programs
Photo: Rob Hutchinson
It's that time of year again, when the Naramata Centre's spring, summer and fall programs are filling up and getting underway. Whether you want to get your creative juices flowing through a pottery workshop, delve into open conversations about scripture, find your centre through yoga, sing to your heart's content, or enroll your children in one of our inclusive and engaging children's programs while you have a well-deserved break - there is something for everybody.

70th Anniversary Celebrations
On June 23, Naramata Centre will celebrate and give thanks for our 70-year history as a United Church Education Centre. The Centre was officially opened in 1948 and has inspired tens of thousands of participants since that time. Extended families have counted Naramata Centre as their destination of choice each summer, and countless individuals have been nurtured and supported at the Centre in their personal and spiritual growth.

Come and join the celebration! Volunteer, share your memories, send us some historic Naramata photos, and register today. For full details and to RSVP, click here .

Come Away - Young Adult Weekend
The BC Conference Young Adult Come Away retreat was held at Naramata Centre April 27-30. The weekend saw the group of young adults aged 18-35ish (and 2 babies!) come together to build community, rest and rejuvenate, and connect with nature and spirit, all in the peace and tranquility of Naramata Centre. The Come Away retreat was BC Conference's first young-adult-only retreat and the weekend was a huge success. Naramata Centre is delighted to have hosted the weekend and to have had the opportunity to meet so many inspiring young people. We hope they will return again soon!

Seeking Volunteer Hosts
Are you friendly and outgoing? Are you planning a trip to Naramata Centre this summer? We are seeking individuals to  engage and supervise volunteers from our summer community who wish to volunteer their time while at the Centre . If you have experience as a volunteer, are outgoing and welcoming, are available for a minimum two-week period, and are knowledgeable about the Centre, this may be the position for you!

As a Volunteer Host, you would receive a free campsite with 15 amp electricity and water, or inside accommodation at reduced cost equivalent to a campsite.

We are looking for Volunteer Hosts from June 29 - July 28 and August 18 - September 1. Read the detailed position description on our website or call the Centre's Managing Director Dennis Hixson at 1-877-996-5751 for more information.

Summer Student Interns Greening the Centre
In May, Spencer Goudswaard and John Nemes joined the Naramata Centre team as our first two summer student interns. Spencer and John's positions were made possible through the United Nations Association in Canada's Green Spaces program. The Green Spaces initiative is designed to provide talented and passionate young Canadians with exciting summer work opportunities in parks and other natural settings across Canada.

Spencer, originally from Chilliwack, BC, studies Physics and Computer Science at the University of Victoria. Spencer applied for the summer student intern position after he came to Naramata for the Come Away young adult retreat in April, and was entranced by the positive energy and beauty of the Centre.

John is from Naramata and is currently completing an Associate of Science Degree at Okanagan College. John has been involved with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services. In his spare time, he enjoys working in the garden.

The team at Naramata Centre is very excited to have Spencer and John join us for the next four months and are looking forward to June 23 when our other four summer student interns arrive!

Gratitude
Hearts and Hands Volunteers
Thank you to the many Hearts and Hands that volunteered during the week of Ma y 19-26. The volunteers offered their time and skills to "wake up"  the Centre for spring and we are so grateful to have had such committed, hardworking people. The gift these dedicated volunteers pro vided is essential to the Centre's ongoing well-being.

The Hearts and Hands team cleared the gardens and lawns, power washed the buildings, washed windows, installed new fire detectors, trimmed, pruned and so much more! The team filled an entire 20 cubic yard bin twice with winter debris.

The community we created that week was amazing. We will do it all again in the Fall.  Registration is now open!
