Recently my office mailed our first edition of our physical, paper newsletter. It summarized the work of our first year as your Council Office. It was tough deciding which activities to spotlight. We highlighted the great work of our neighborhood leaders in District 7's first Neighborhood Leadership Academy, ongoing efforts to mitigate flooding, and our office’s successful property tax appraisal workshops. While we could not fit everything into those 8 pages, we will do our best to continue to keep you informed of our work for you through this weekly electronic news blast.

The Wildwood neighborhood welcomed Councilwoman Sandoval to their meeting at Grady's Bar-B-Q this past week. Councilwoman discussed the upcoming Back to School Bash on August 11 and the O.P. Schnabel Park Concept Plan meeting on August 16 at Rudder Middle School from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Dear Overheated,
Fortunately, there are many things you can do to save money on your energy bill this summer. Here is a
link to energy savings tips compiled by CPS Energy. The three I’ve found most effective include:
- Hanging curtains or shades on your windows—especially windows receiving direct sunlight.
- Keeping your AC set a little higher than you would in the spring. Using a fan will make you feel 4 to 6 degrees cooler.
- Using the laundry machine and dryer during off-peak hours, before 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m.
There are a host of other options available to you if you need guidance or can’t afford to make your home more energy efficient. For example, CPS Energy will visit your home and give you specific energy savings recommendations to help you save on your monthly bill. This is a great resource available free of charge to all CPS Energy customers. Although there is a waitlist for this program, it’s worth signing up for sooner rather than later. You can sign up

Additionally, both CPS Energy and the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) will make your home more energy efficient for free if you meet their eligibility criteria. You can learn more about CPS Energy’s program

It's your city, make your voice heard! Learn about the proposed Fiscal Year 2019 budget with your friends and family. It's your chance to meet your neighbors, city leaders, and learn more about city services while enjoying free entertainment, free health screenings, and fun giveaways!
The events in and closest to District 7 include:
- August 20 at Hardberger Park Urban Ecology Center from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
- August 25 at Woodlawn Lake Park from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Musicians to be heard: San Antonio City Council Meetings to soon feature local music
|
|
San Antonio City Council meetings will now have a soundtrack with the launch of the City Council Local Music Spotlight Program.
Applications for the program will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed for selection by the San Antonio Arts Commission’s Music Committee.
Guidelines and the application can be found on the “Get Plugged In” page of www.getcreativesanantonio.com/Music-Commission. Artists can submit up to three original songs to be considered for play during the following City Council meetings, which are held in the Municipal Plaza Building, including:
- “A session” meetings, held at 9 a.m. every Thursday, except the fourth week of the month
- “B session” meetings, held Wednesdays at 2 p.m., except the fourth week of the month
- Special City Council meetings (may be held at locations other than the Municipal Plaza Building)
The music also will be featured on TVSA and online at www.sanantonio.gov/TVSA, as all City Council meetings are broadcast on these outlets.
“The City Council Local Music Spotlight Program falls perfectly in line with the Department of Arts & Culture’s development of a Music Strategic Plan and subsequent Music Division,” said Henry Brun, musician, District 7 representative of the San Antonio Arts Commission, and the chair of its Music Committee. “Implementing music-friendly initiatives like this provides another avenue for musicians to gain support and experience from their hometown.”

Tobacco 21 Stakeholder Meetings
|
|
The City of San Antonio's Tobacco 21 Ordinance will take effect October 1, 2018. Tobacco prevention stakeholders to include tobacco retailers are invited to attend and learn about the implementation of the new ordinance. The meetings will take place at the libraries below. Free parking will be available.
One of the four meetings will be held at Forest Hills Library (5245 Ingram Road) on August 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Future Land Use Categories Public Meetings
|
|
These meetings are an opportunity to learn about an provide feedback on the proposed land use categories used in SA Tomorrow. These categories will define, for instance, what is considered low, medium, and high density development and standardize the land use categories used across various neighborhood and community plans. There are four meetings scheduled:
