Have you been joining us Thursday nights? Tonight we gather for week 3 of our 5 week series of Theology on Tap.
What is Theology on Tap?
The Archdiocese of Chicago launched a revitalized Theology on Tap for Summer 2018.
Our speaker series will be focusing on the "Grow it" track, where we will journey together and deepen our relationships with the Holy Spirit while learning about the Catholic faith from a millennial point of view.
Each parish in our Old Town/Lincoln Park grouping has been/will be hosting a Theology on Tap event over the course of 5 weeks. Together with St. Vincent DePaul, ICSJ, St. Michael's and St. Teresa's, St. Josaphat Parish invites all young adults age 18-39 to join us for Theology on Tap. Bring your friends!
So, you say that you care? Okay. You want to do something to make life better for others? Good. You want to right some wrongs? Admirable. What is your game plan? If your plan does not include prayer and penance and the Sacraments, are you for real? If God is central for you, are you proclaiming Him to others who do not include Him? A priest once admonished, "Be careful how you live your life, you may be the only gospel that somebody reads."
Our speaker for the evening is Wayne Smith. In his words: I am a convert to the Catholic Church who was raised as a Jew and then became a rebellious atheist for 35 years, especially during the 60's and 70's. As a photographer who was going blind, my life fell apart and I became suicidal. God was waiting for me at the bottom of the proverbial "barrel" and He drew me into the Catholic Church and a relationship with Jesus Christ in 1996. That began a new way of life.

Michael Nicolás Okińczyc: Jesus was a Community Organizer.
Jesus stood up to the political leaders of his day and spoke out against injustice. What was it like for Jesus as a 1st century Jew in Palestine? What did life in Palestine under Roman occupation look like for those without wealth or political power? The intent of this conversation will be to provide a rich historical context to Jesus' life and ministry and to highlight the connections between what Jesus experienced under the Roman Empire and what we see happening in our world today.

College Sendoff Mass and Reception

Join us
THIS SATURDAY,
July 28 at 5pm Mass for our annual college sendoff Mass followed by an outdoor reception in the community park. All students heading off to college this fall (new and returning) are invited to join us to receive a special blessing.

Ice Cream Social and Information Day
|
On August 16th from 4-6pm along with visiting the classrooms, parents and students will be dropping off school supplies and then heading outside to get some ice cream and visit the tables outside in the parking lot of the church to where we will display info, sign-up, gear, etc. to welcome the SJS families back to school.

ATTENTION 8TH GRADERS: Are you looking for a way to receive community service hours during the summer? You and a chaperone, can sign up to volunteer for the Helping Hands Ministry, Mon - Fri 9:15 am - 11:00 am. To get involved with the program you can sign-up on our website under Ministries > Outreach. *Please note you must be 18 years old or accompanied by a chaperone in order to volunteer.

2018-19 Religious Education classes is now open

Our program will meet on Tuesday evenings. All parish children not attending a Catholic school should be enrolled in a Religious Education Program. We offer a 4 and 5 year-old program on Tuesday evenings along with the 1st through 8th grade program.
