Alexander Teal (Class of 2020) receives a special award from the Orange County Council of PTA's/PTSA's.
Congratulations to DP Senior Alexander Teal for receiving the Florida State PTA Reflections Award of Merit for his film "Pursuit of Happiness - Look Within and Reflect."  Alexander did an outstanding job interpreting the 2019-2020 PTA Reflections theme "Look Within" through his heartfelt storyline, wonderful script, excellent casting and beautiful photography.

Alexander received an Award of Excellence for his film from the Dr. Phillips High School PTSA and an Award of Excellence from the Orange County Council of PTA's/PTSA's.  At the OCCPTA reception on January 11th, Alexander's film was shown and extremely well received.

Double Exhaustion - Emily Wood 9th

This piece titled, "Double Exhaustion," is my take on a self-portrait in a surrealistic style. This work started as a colored portrait photo I took using two mirrors to give the visual that there was more than one of me in the picture. That, in turn, inspired me to create a more whimsical, emotive, and thought-provoking work of art. I created this piece using various mediums such as watercolors, Copic markers, and colored pencils. As an up and coming artist, this was a pivotal piece for me and motivated me to create more work in this particular style.
Time Date - Skyla Gronigan 9th

My piece, "Timed Date," is an image of a teddy bear and an eyeball on a date inside what looks like a brain filled with clocks and a heart. This piece is created from Prismacolor colored pencils and a white pen for small details. The drawing is actually a re-make of an old piece that was a class project in 8th grade, where I picked two random objects out of a bucket to create a surrealism piece. I wanted to recreate it so I could have an updated piece in the exhibit, showing what I've learned since the eighth grade.
Depiction of a Modern Kunst - Jorge Rodriguez 11th

The piece "Depiction of a Modern Kunst" showcases the insanity and obsession that our current society has with mass propaganda and views on capitalistic ideals, the piece shows a chaotic and claustrophobic city. This is a reference to the mass overpopulation in big cities such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, within these cities masses of people, are in search of change and growth but are dealt with the tribulations from large enterprises and unjustifiable standards. The piece shows my face hovering over the destructive yet glamorous city, my head floats in the air in a reference to a heavenly Madonna in the site of destruction and chaos. The city is made with pieces of old and new images of city life, this includes old and new technology which shows the clash in culture in big cities as well. The red hands and lettering over the face in graphite showcase how ideals that are bigger than us serve to change us and transform our view whether that be for the better or worse. As a whole, I wanted to capture the insanity and anxiety felt from the masses living in our fast-paced and blind society. There is a sense of eeriness and terror in the image. I wanted to bring this serious issue in a surreal way, in that format it is seen on a larger than life scale which allows me to fully express my views on the chaos in a manner that appears outrageous and unsettling.
Lustful Epitome - Jorge Rodriguez 11th

The piece "Lustful Epitome" is a manifestation of my struggles and confusion, the piece showcases an image of myself with red makeup and tears dripping down my face. There is one hand resting upon my face and its fingertips show rays of light in the same color as the makeup. The background is in black and white, showing bland images of clouds and oceans. The red used within this piece serves to represent repression and anger; red is a color used for strength and passion. Within this piece I used it to show my tribulation with repressing my feelings, the hand is a reference to divine and heavenly images in Catholicism that show purity and all things powerful. The rays coming out of the fingertips show the change that is set to happen as well as its grand power. Overall, I took much inspiration from Catholic and Roman religious images and their connotation to power, much of the image is supposed to have a grandiose and stiff vibrance to it.
Crane - Ali Malik 12th

My artwork is composed to take a scene that happens every day but in a different, dynamic perspective. Although the concept is simple: The crushing defeat of a child from nearly obtaining a stuffed animal from a crane machine. I wanted to convey it as a story. Artists that can use storytelling are the best and I wanted to implement both style and substance to this piece. I used elements of art and storytelling like making the crane seem bigger than the child to emphasize importance and hierarchy in the composition when in real life it's as big as its palm.

Monday's Motivational Moment!
211 Degrees

If you heat water to 211 degrees Fahrenheit it is still a liquid substance; but an extremely hot liquid that can be used for many things. But if you heat water by just one more degree, it boils and then turns to steam. The power from that one degree of difference in temperature can be harnessed to drive a train locomotive or turn giant turbines for a city's electric grid.

Sadly, many people will go through life set at 211 degrees. They have great ideas, dreams, goals, but never turn them into reality. To raise water temperature by one degree is not difficult, but how do you do it with a person? The answer is enthusiasm and passion. Intelligence counts for a lot, but without enthusiasm and passion, it is simply thinking versus doing. It is enthusiasm and passion that raises the human soul to the boiling point where dreams can become real. At that point, what may seem like a long shot, becomes quite probable.

Panthers, this summer consider the difference in one degree of temperature upon water and give some thought to this question, "What dreams would you dare to dream if you knew you could not fail?' If you can raise your enthusiasm and passion by that "one degree," the odds of achieving your dreams have been seriously multiplied.
Enjoy your Memorial Day holiday!
