Freedom Found on the
Current River
Brandon Butler and Derek Butler at the end of a 35-mile float trip on the Current River.

The Fourth of July is about celebrating freedom. This year, I experienced a level few enjoy in these modern times. Over the course of three days and two nights, my cousin, Derek Butler, and I completed a 35-mile journey on the Current River. We slept on gravel bars and worried about little more than what we would grill for our next meal and if we were using the right lure to tempt a mighty brown trout from behind a boulder. The river washed away the stress of society.

Certified Wildlife Habitat ®
Recognize your commitment to wildlife and certify your yard, balcony container garden, schoolyard, work landscape or roadside greenspace into a  Certified Wildlife Habitat®

By creating a natural garden with native plants, you are providing essential elements of wildlife habitat: food, water, cover and a place for wildlife to raise their young. Add a water source - such as a birdbath - and follow sustainable gardening practices, and your garden will not only be wildlife-friendly, but it will qualify as a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat®.

In addition, a portion of your application processing fee supports the Conservation Federation of Missouri and the National Wildlife Federation's programs to inspire others to make a difference and address declining habitat for bees, butterflies, birds, amphibians and other wildlife. The fee is waived for schools.

Certified Wildlife Habitat®  application  HERE .

CFM Hires Mike Capps as Corporate Relations Manager
The Conservation Federation of Missouri staff continues to grow with the  addition of Mike Capps as Corporate Relations Manager. Mike will be charged with further developing and expanding CFM's highly successful Business Alliance Program.

"Mike Capps brings a wealth of industry experience to the Conservation Federation. For nearly two decades, he has worked with many of the biggest corporations in the outdoor market and earned a reputation as the sort of professional our partners can count on to maximize the benefits of supporting CFM. We are lucky to have him. I know our Business Alliance is going to thrive under Mike's leadership," said Brandon Butler, Executive Director.
As a life-long resident of Missouri and an avid outdoorsman, Mike learned to be a good steward of the land while growing up on a farm in the East-Central part of the state. His love for the outdoors led to a career in the hunting and shooting sports industry, representing a number of different companies. He enjoys hunting, fishing, shooting and most anything outdoors.
"I'm excited to be a part of such a great organization," Mike said. "The Conservation Federation of Missouri has a long and distinguished history and their efforts have helped make the state of Missouri into an example for other states to follow when it comes to protecting the environment and our outdoor heritage."
Mike and his wife Kathy are Pike County natives and are active in their church and community. They will celebrate 40 years of marriage in December and have been blessed with two children and six grandchildren.

5th Annual Affiliate Summit
September 13-14th
Affiliate Leaders,

Mark your calendar for the 5th Annual CFM Affiliate Summit on September 13-14th 2018, at the Inn at Grand Glaze in Osage Beach. This year's Affiliate Summit will once again feature impressive speakers and cover important topics.

Although most CFM Affiliates have specific initiatives, each has the over arching goal of ensuring Missouri remains the conservation model other states strive to become.

In order to better organize our collective powers as the conservation community of Missouri, we hope that you will attend this year's Affiliate Summit. Your attendance, along with additional leaders of your organization, will benefit all other attendees, and will help ensure this Affiliate Summit is as productive as possible. If you cannot attend, please send someone else from your organization. We welcome paid staff and passionate volunteers.

There is no cost for up to two representatives from each Affiliate that is current on their dues. Additional representatives are welcome to attend for $50 each.

Visit  www.confedmo.org/affiliate-summit/ to see the agenda and to learn more.
