Growing in faith, serving with love
Congregational Update January 14, 2021
Dear FPC Tequesta Family,

In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 that has increased exponentially over the last month, our session voted to suspend sanctuary worship services beginning this Sunday, January 17 through February 14. In its place, we will offer a drive in worship service every Sunday at 10:00 A.M. that is similar to the services we held this summer, and our virtual services will continue to be posted on our website following the drive in service. Our hope is that this is a brief pause for our sanctuary to get through the post-holiday surge in positivity rates and that we will be able to return to the sanctuary in time for the Lenten season. As always, we continue to monitor the latest developments of the pandemic in order to discern the best way to move forward as a congregation.

If you would like to participate in our drive in service, all you need to do is pull into our parking lot at 10:00 A.M., tune into 89.5 FM, and worship God with your brothers and sisters parked beside you! Sunday school and nursery care will continue to be provided during the service. We will provide a downloadable bulletin every week in our emails as well as on our website.

Please keep our church and one another in your prayers as we navigate the most difficult phase of this pandemic. Hope is right around the corner, but we must remain vigilant as we strive to love God as well as our neighbor! If you have any questions, please reach out to the church office at 561-746-5161.

In Christ,

Pastor Dan

A little bit about our music this week:
This Sunday, we will have Lynn Donley sing our prelude! Her song is based on the biblical exodus from slavery to freedom and peace. "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" was originally a poem to be read for the birthday of Abraham Lincoln in 1900. Set to music, it soon became the official song of the NAACP. On October 19, 2017, when the white supremacist leader, Richard Spencer, spoke at the University of Florida, the University's carillon played "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" to convey a message of unity in opposition to the speaker. This Sunday, Lynn sings it again to set an atmosphere of reverence and gratitude for the American journey of all her peoples towards a community of tolerance, freedom, and peace.

Reinforcing that same desire, written 120 years later, the Song of Peace sung by Lynne Spotts is a new version of the Prayer of St. Francis.
