First Annual Ohio Police K9 Memorial
Amberley's K-9 Creed and handler Officer Alt took part in the unveiling of the three memorial walls which were dedicated at the first annual
Ohio Police K9 Memorial to pay tribute to the K-9s who have served and are still serving their community. The memorial, located on Ohio 125 in Amelia, honors K-9s for their sacrifice and duty in putting their lives on the line for their handlers, department and community.
The three granite walls each contain a list of the K-9 names and their respective departments from around the State of Ohio. K-9 Creed's name is inscribed on one of the memorial walls. Over 40 K-9 units from Ohio were in attendance at the tribute held May 19, 2018.

Planning a Block Party?
Looking for a great way to get to know the neighbors? Want to soak up the sun and socialize in the street? A block party brings the whole community together and makes everybody feel right at home. So start up the grill and get ready to rock the block with these important things to keep in mind.
Before you go partying in the streets, make sure you first obtain a permit. You can print the form from our website

or stop in to the Village Administration to pick one up. Be sure to fill out the form and return it in plenty of time before the party. The form must be reviewed by the Police Department to ensure that the area wished to be blocked off is permissible.
Once your block party permit is approved, the Amberley Village Maintenance Department will drop off barricades and other items that will be needed to safely block off the street on the last working day before your party. You may then set the barricades up at the time that you requested.
While the party is going on, please be mindful of a few things. In the event of an emergency, responders may still need to enter the closed off area, so please don't have items in the street that cannot be easily moved. Also, should any resident living in the closed off area need to leave or return to their residence, they must be allowed access.
When all the partying is over, please remember to clean up after yourselves. You may place the barricades in the same location that they were dropped off and the Maintenance Department will pick them up on the next working day.
Block parties are all about fun, community, and making memories. Remember these tips and have a great time!

Volunteer for Tree Care - June 21
The next clean-up day for volunteers to meet will be Thursday, June 21. The Environmental Stewardship Committee invites you to participate in the clean-up days held at the Amberley Green property to perform light maintenance to remove weeds and invasive growth from the roots zones to ensure healthy trees.
Volunteers will meet at 5:00 p.m.
in the parking lot at 7801 Ridge Road on the following dates:
June 21, September 27 and October 25
. Sun hats, sunscreen and gardening gloves are recommended. Everyone is welcome to join us!

Avoid Blowing Grass Clippings into the Street
Whether you take care of your lawn or hire a contractor, blowing grass clippings into the street should not be considered a matter of preference or a quick finish to lawn work. Eventually, grass blown into the street ends up in the gutter and travels to the nearest storm drain where it can clog the drain.
When something besides rain goes into these drains, residents can begin to experience issues on their property and with their water. Accumulation of grass clippings at a storm water drain can cause the catch basin to become clogged resulting in fertilizer and pesticides on the grass to be carried into our creeks and streams untreated. A clogged drain can also trap additional debris and block water from entering the drain resulting in localized flooding of the street.

Garage Sale Permits
A garage sale permit is required by the Amberley Village Code for individuals who plan to hold a garage or yard sale within the Village. The permit is free and may be obtained at the Village Municipal Building or by clicking the link below. Complete and submit to the Village's Administration office for approval prior to the start of the sale.
- Garage sales shall be held only during daylight hours; and for not more than two consecutive days.
- Items sold shall be owned solely by occupants of his or her household;
- Items for sale may not be displayed any nearer than 25 feet from the Village right-of-way line;
- Residents must comply with all regulations of the Amberley Village Code concerning advertising and posting of signs. Section 111.94 of the Amberley Village Code states:
"No advertisement or direction sign for a garage sale, lawn sale, or basement sale shall be posted on Village property or in a manner which would restrict a right-of-way of a public highway or Village street. Signs shall not be posted on the property of another without the express permission of the property owner."

Fireworks Safety
Don't spend a summer weekend in an emergency room. Fireworks are illegal to shoot off in Ohio, cause serious injuries annually and can cause wildland fires. If the fireworks do not fit into the four S's
(sparklers, snakes, snaps or smoke bombs) it's illegal in Ohio to set off.
Here are a few safety tips from the Amberley Police-Fire Department.
- Never allow young children to play with fireworks. You'd never let a young child play with fire, and sparklers and firecrackers are no different. The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) strongly discourages the use of fireworks, including sparklers, by children under the age of five. Adults should always supervise all firework activities. Never allow children to play with or ignite a firework.
- Keep a hose and water bucket nearby. Set off firecrackers on a flat, paved surface, such as the middle of a driveway or cul-de-sac. Check the area for possible debris that could catch fire, including leaves, branches and plants. Keep a bucket of water and garden hose handy in case a spark accidently ignites.
- Exercise caution when lighting the fuse. When lighting fireworks, do so carefully without placing any part of your body over the actual firework. Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes in the event of an unexpected explosion. Light one firework at a time and back away quickly. Never shoot fireworks into a metal or glass container; doing so could result in an additional explosion. Never carrying fireworks in your pocket.
- Say "no" to sparklers. Sparklers can burn as hot as 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission. Skip the sparklers and eliminate the risk of serious burns or accidental injuries.
- Dispose of fireworks safely. Once the celebrations are over, douse all used fireworks with water. Place the fireworks in a metal trashcan away from a building or combustible materials until the next day. NEVER relight a firework that failed to fully function. Wait 20 minutes and then soak the "dud" firework in a bucket of water.
- Save the alcohol for later. Alcohol and fireworks don't mix. If you do plan on indulging in drinks prior to setting off fireworks, choose a "designated shooter" who has not been drinking to manage the fireworks. Or, skip the at-home display altogether and attend your town's public, professionally run fireworks demonstration after your picnic festivities end.
