WELCOMING THE STRANGER

To the St. Matthew's Community:

The refugee family St. Matthew's is sponsoring will be arriving soon! They are a mother and her three children from Pakistan. Zeb Un Nisa is 43. Her daughter Judith is 13, and her sons Aaron and Fnu are 9 and 7, respectively. That's about all we know at present.

There are two ways you can help them now:

1) This Saturday, June 2nd, we will be setting up the apartment. Furnishing the apartment and getting things set up is primarily the responsibility of the sponsors (that's us).
We are looking for donations of household goods and furniture in good condition. They will need everything except mattresses and bed frames.
Clothing and toys, books, and games are needed, too. The family's apartment will be in Clarkston or Stone Mountain. I'll have the exact address very soon.

2) The second way you can help is to be part of the welcoming party at the airport when the family arrives on Thursday, June 7th. Unfortunately, they arrive at 11:51 pm, so it's tough for those who have to work the next morning. But, if you're so inclined, it would great to have a decent contingent from St. Matthew's at the airport to welcome the family to their new American home.

If you have items to donate, or you can help with moving items or apartment setup, or you can be part of the welcoming party on the 7th, respond to me at markdigiovanni@comcast.net. I apologize for the short notice on all this. We just found out last Thursday that this was our family and when they're arriving, and have been putting the details together on what is needed. I'm just proud we're participating and we're this close to "welcoming the stranger".

SOUTHEAST  GWINNETT COOP JUNE FOOD DRIVE

June is the month in which St. Matthew's focuses on collecting additional items for the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministries.

In addition to collecting our usual items of dried beans, jelly, and shampoo, the coop is asking for donations of canned pineapple. The pineapple is always in high demand and just seems to fly off the shelves.

Beginning this Sunday, June 3rd, the Outreach Committee will be handing out bags with attached food list after both services, so please fill bag and return to barrel outside of the Parish Hall.  All items will be promptly delivered to the Coop.

Thank you for supporting this vital ministry!

The Southeast Gwinnett Co-op has a critical need for volunteers. For more information on how

PLEDGE  & GIFT STATEMENTS
JANUARY to APRIL, 2018

Statements of pledges and monetary gifts to St. Matthew's are now ready for pickup. Please find yours in the narthex. We ask that you look at your statements carefully, and call the office at 770-979-4210 to let us know of any discrepancies.

There are several items in the Lost and Found basket in the office
If you are missing car keys, a bracelet, flip phone, gloves, sunglasses, scissors, a glasses case, small tool box with craft items, spiral bound notebook, Canon battery pack, or other sundry small items, please check in the church office to claim your items. Anything not claimed by July 1 will be donated or discarded.  Thanks!

YOU ARE PART OF A RIVER
There's a term in finance called cash flow. It's perhaps the most important term when you're talking about the life of an organization. Think of cash flow like a river flow. The river's waters always flow to the sea. If water doesn't come into the river, the river dries up and dies. If St. Matthew's is the river, your pledge dollars are the water coming into the river. During the summer, the flow of those dollars gets reduced, most often because of innocent absence. Nevertheless, the river gets dangerously low.  During the summer (and all year, for that matter), please make sure your pledges are up to date to keep the river healthy and flowing. Thank you.

SERVING SCHEDULE AND   EVENTS THIS WEEK

Be at peace.

Do not fear the changes of life, rather look to them with full hope as they arise. God, whose very own you are, will deliver you from out of them. He has kept you hitherto, and He will lead you safely through all things; and when you cannot stand it, God will bury you in His arms. Do not be afraid of what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting father who cares for you today will take care of you then and every day. He will either shield you from suffering, or will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

-St. Francis de Sales
