With summer well underway we take a moment to look back at those PCSD faculty and staff members who recently celebrated their retirement at the end of the 2017-2018 school year. We thank them for their years of dedication and service to our schools and our children. PKMS to Host Jump Start Program on August 10

Calling all incoming Peekskill Middle School Grade 6 students...Jump Start 2018 is coming! This informative event is scheduled for Friday, August 10, 2018 at Peekskill Middle School.

Jump Start is a mandatory school orientation for all Grade 6 students and their parents/guardians at the Peekskill Middle School.

The program will help prepare incoming students and their families to learn more about the middle school experience, set expectations for school safety, introduce PBIS and class transition, and create the foundation for sixth grade learning community.

The orientation will be divided into two sessions so that the students and their families can travel with their homeroom class and tour their new school. Session one is for students in hall 6-North scheduled for 8:30-10:00 a.m. and session two is for students in hall 6-South from 10:30-12:00 p.m.  The Grade 6 team will be facilitating the workshops so parents and teachers will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions.

Beginning July 1, 2018, all New York State public school students must have a health exam when they enter school:
- as a new entrant
- in Pre-K or Kindergarten
-in Grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11

These examinations should be completed on the New York State School Health Examination Form

The required NYS School Health Examination Form was developed to provide consistency throughout the state in the health care information provided to schools. We understand that your medical provider's office may not yet be aware of the change, so if you have already had a physical examination completed for the 2018-2019 school year on a different form, the school will accept the physical on that form.

Starting in the 2019-2020 school year, only the Approved NYSED School Health Examination Form will be accepted.

It is the fundamental policy of the Board of Education to have medical examinations of pupils attending public schools made by the family's private physician whenever possible. This policy recognizes the fact that the family physician is the most familiar with the health problems of the pupil and best able to institute treatment when needed. If the examination form is not submitted to the school nurse, the school physician (Medical Director) will do a health appraisal on all new entrants and in Pre-K or Kindergarten, and in Grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11.

Please visit the PCSD Health Services webpage for more details.

Our alumni Peekskill Science Research (PSR) students have secured themselves some amazing opportunities this summer! Watch this video as these recent PHS graduates tell you about their culminating PSR projects and how these projects tie into their summer internships.
This summer a group of students in Peekskill's My Brother's Keeper program participated in a variety of workshops at Peekskill High School, while others teamed up with the PCSD Art Department to help beautify the locker rooms at the administration building. In the workshops, students were able set short and long term goals, speak about healthy relationships, work with computers and give feedback on what they'd like to see the program offer next year. After attending the workshops, many off the students who participated in the lessons reconvened on a separate day for a group trip to Great Adventure with some of our MBK mentors. A fun time was had by all!

On July 18, PCSD Superintendent Dr. Mauricio, PKMS Principal Mr. Jamal Lewis, PHS Assistant Principal Mrs. Naima Smith-Moore and PKMS Teacher Cami Blazejewski attended the Lower Hudson Valley My Brother's Keeper (MBK) regional meeting where they shared updates on this year's work and learned from other districts' efforts. Moving forward into the new school year, Dr. Mauricio and staff will be convening community stakeholder meetings to build upon PCSD's past successes and to further develop the focus of the MBK initiative.

PNW BOCES District Superintendent Dr. James Ryan, joined by PNW BOCES Assistant Superintendents Dr. Lynn Allen and Mr. John McCarthy, accompanied Sullivan's family, teachers and BOCES Board of Education trustee Mr. Douglas Glickert to the Peekskill Administration Building where a ceremony was held in Sullivan's honor. Sullivan's teacher, Ms. Tammy Adams spoke at the ceremony and explained why her student was selected for BOCES' prestigious honor.
