GIVING STATEMENTS
Please look for your second quarter 2018 Giving Statement in Fellowship Hall this Sunday. Thank you for your financial gifts to support UMCE!

IMPORTANT WAYS THAT YOU CAN FINANCIALLY SUPPORT UMCE

There are many ways you can support our church besides the Sunday morning offering. Here are just a few:

Amazon Smile
Amazon Smile is another way to donate to UMCE. Many of us order things from Amazon. The next time you order consider using Amazon Smile. This is how it works: You just log into www.Amazonsmile.com  (instead of www.Amazon.com ). Then you will see a screen that will ask what charity you support. You will enter our church name, "United Methodist Church of Evergreen." If you've ordered on Amazon Smile before, your charity name will automatically be registered and you won't get this screen. The church will then receive .5% of your purchase price. This may not seem like much, but it all adds up!

Birthday Donations
During the month of your birthday make a donation to the church equal to the number of years you have been on this earth (or any number you are comfortable with). Make a birthday donation for your parents, children or best friend.

Grocery Card Purchases
Purchase a King Soopers or Safeway reloadable gift card at the church. Use it and keep reloading it to buy your groceries and gasoline at King Soopers or Safeway. Buy the grocery cards for family members, friends, service providers, etc. Encourage them tot he reload the cards and use them to purchase their groceries and gasoline. The church makes 5% on grocery card purchases.

Vehicle Donation
Donate your used vehicle to the church. We have a contract with an organization which sells used vehicles. They give a portion of the sales price to our church.

IRA Rollovers to Benefit the Church
The IRA rollover is a simple and easy way to grow God's kingdom.  If you are 70½, you may rollover up to $100,000 from your IRA to the church without paying any federal income tax on your gift. Your gift to the church from your IRA will qualify for your 2018 required minimum distribution (RMD).  To make an IRA rollover gift in 2018, simply contact your custodian and request that all or  part of your required minimum distribution  (RMD) be transferred to the church. For more information, visit rm-umf.org or contact the United Methodist Foundation at 303-778-6370.

All of these donations provided added benefit to our church. Thank you for your support!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Communion Stewards Needed
We need one or more volunteers to serve as communion stewards on Communion Sundays, which are always the first Sunday of each month. Communion Stewards would be responsible for setting up and removing the communion supplies before and after the services.  This is not a time-consuming job, but it would be good to have two people sharing the position, so that one could be there for the 8:30 service and one for the 10:30 service.  Please contact the church office if you are interested in serving in this capacity.

Could you host one of the August coffee times after worship?
We are a church who enjoys visiting after worship, and we have several guests at each service. During the summer months there aren't committees assigned to host fellowship time and it is up to individual members to host. It's easy! Sign-up in fellowship hall {or call the church office to sign-up}. Bring in some store cookies, crackers & cheese. Make coffee. Set out cups, water and the coffee fixings. Watch people enjoy themselves & then clean-up.

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

No One Completes the Journey Solo

I am sure you are familiar with the amazing story of the migration of the monarch butterfly, a lovely little creature who blesses our gardens and forests in the summer. Every autumn, millions of monarchs from all over the eastern United States and Canada migrate thousands of miles to a small handful of sites in Mexico where they rest for the winter. Then in the spring, they begin their return trip to the north. The amazing thing is that no individual monarch ever makes the trip to Mexico and back.

A butterfly that leaves the Adirondack Mountains in New York will fly all the way to Mexico and spend the winter. In March, it begins the trip northward, but after laying eggs in the milkweed of Texas and Florida, it will die. Those butterflies will continue northward, laying eggs along the way until some of them, maybe three or four generations removed from the original, make it back to mountains of New York. But when August comes, they will head south, aiming for the exact place their great grandparents visited, a place they have never been.

Sue Halpern says: "The monarchs always migrate in community and depend on each other. Although a single monarch may make it from New York to Mexico, it is the next generation who completes the journey."

Now here is the word for the church. She says: "No one completes the journey solo. It is only as a community that we discover the fullness of God's plan for us."

In Christ's grace,

Pastor Deb
