Personal History of Cog Railway
Have you ever taken a ride on the world-famous Cog Railway? Find out more about this unique railroad in NH from someone who knows firsthand. On
Monday, June 4 at 6:30
North Conway resident Jon Hively will talk about his time working on the Cog. Jon moved to New Hampshire in 1970 and became an engineer on the world famous, steam-powered, Mt. Washington Cog Railway. He worked as a brakeman, fireman and engineer from 1974-1986. He will talk about the life they had back then, the pranks they played, and the bizarre and sometimes thrilling experiences they shared on the railway. Jon also has an extensive collection of antiques and paraphernalia from the Cog. Jon's book "First Out: My Life on the Mt. Washington Cog Railway" will be available for purchase and signing. Teen Summer Reading Program
Don't miss the Dover Public Library's Teen Summer Reading Program "Libraries Rock"! Libraries Rock: Adult Summer Reading Program
Once again the library will be offering an
Adult Summer Reading
program. This year the theme is "Libraries Rock" with a music theme. Sign up between
June 25-August 3
, read, and possibly win, great prizes from many local businesses such as: Bending Bodhi, The Farm, Hackmatack Theater, RiverRun Books, Adelle's, Cinco de Mayo, Newicks, 7th Settlement, Thirsty Moose, and more! Meditation Group
On
Tuesday, June 5 at 7pm
Jacqueline Finnerty leads a monthly meditation group on the First Tuesday of every month with each session concentrating on a different type of meditation. Finnerty is the creator of Blissful Soul Studio and is a meditation instructor at Serenity Spa & Salon in Dover.

Sue Anne Bottomley, our artist of the month, will give a talk she calls "Traveling with a Sketchbook in Hand: New Hampshire and Beyond" on
Tuesday, June 12 at 6:30pm
. Following her talk she will give a mini demonstration of her favorite art supplies with a chance for the audience to try them out. Signed copies of her three books will be available for purchase at the event.

a fascinating history. Author and historian Karen Raynes will present a documentary based on the book she co-authored with

Addiction & Families
We all know about the devastating opioid crisis and the lives it ruins. But what about the family members of those in crisis? The Library will be hosting a panel discussion on
Wednesday, June 27 at 7pm
featuring director John Iudice and counselor Vanessa Levin of Addiction Recovery Services in Portsmouth and additional guests to speak to the particular issues facing families of addicted loved ones. They treat many other types of addictions as well. All are welcome to this free event.

Do you have a couple of hours a week you could spare? We are looking for someone willing to visit our "Little Free Libraries" and restock them with books--twice per week during the warm months and once per week in the colder season. We have one LFL located on the playground at Henry Law Park and the second LFL is in Mineral Park on Pleasant View Circle. Artist of the Month
June's artist will be Sue Ann Bottomley. Her show is called "From Pencil to Paintbrush: Inspiration from My Portsmouth Sketchbooks". She will be displaying acrylic paintings on wooden panels during the month of June. She'll also be speaking at the Library on

Space Repurposing
If you have been in the Library lately you may have noticed a change in the magazine area. We consolidated our magazines into less space, ordered a new newspaper rack, and installed outlets in the floor. All of this is working towards a new maker space. Soon moveable tables will arrive to create a space for creativity. Technology classes will also take place there. Our Technology librarian will move her desk into the space to offer more accessible technology assistance for our patrons.
