Work on the Library continues!  As part of the same New York State grant that helped fund our bathroom renovations, we will be replacing a majority of our windows in June.  Please pardon our appearance while we continue improving the Library.

Summer is almost here, and the  Somers Library has been hard at work preparing for our Summer Reading Program.  After this long and brutal winter and spring we are looking forward to all that summer offers.  Come to the Library to see what wonderful programs and materials we have for your summer fun!

Art Gallery
Seema K. Varma is an artist, author, poet and founder of Saral Seva Trust which is a charity to uplift the lives of underprivileged. After a successful career in Information Technology, she found her passion in creative arts and writing.

Her passion to paint started in 2015 with a quest to find a unique artwork for the cover page of her first self-help book. It led to a collection of paintings that cover a variety of subjects and techniques all skillfully captured with beautiful acrylic colors on canvas. She practices intuitive style of painting. Most of the work she does is to first connect with her Higher Self and then to express it on canvas. She would like to convey to others the similar uplifting message. Her artwork has been well-received at the local libraries. She currently lives in Baldwin Place, NY with her husband and two sons.

If you are interested in displaying your art, please email somersartgallery@wls mail.org for an application.

Friends of Somers Library

Friends make all the difference! - a Note from Friends of  Somers Library

There's a song lyric that goes, "thank you for being a friend."* That is so true at Somers Library. We were able to provide the TED Talk series thanks to a Friend who volunteered, and who each month works to prepare and present two TED videos and lead the discussions that followed: Professor Eugene Ritchie. This series has enriched the program offerings for adults at our library.   We are proud that Professor Ritchie has made such a significant contribution to the library, and we all thank him.

*Thank you for Being a Friend by Andrew Gold.

If you have a talent you would like to share through the Friends, please contact [email protected]

The Friends provide support to enhance, preserve, and strengthen the library as it serves individuals, families and the community throughout the year, and each year we are tasked with raising sufficient funds to provide meaningful programs for children, teens and adults.   Your generosity so far in response to our 2018 Annual Appeal has been truly outstanding.  If you haven't yet made a contribution, our appeal continues into the new year.   If you don't have our current brochure, you can pick one up at the library, or donate using your PayPal account to [email protected].  Thank you!

The Friends of the Somers Library were chartered in 1979 by the Regents of the University of the State of New York.
