As 2019 comes to a close, we reflect on what an exciting year it's been at the City of Signal Hill. We celebrated our 95th anniversary all year, we opened a brand-new Public Library, we held several successful community events, and much more. We are grateful for your engagement, support, and enthusiasm. We also extend our gratitude to all of our community sponsors for making this year possible. We wish you season's greetings and happy holidays. We look forward to another exciting year in 2020!

Winter Holidays: Schedule Changes and Closures
|
|
The City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 24, is cancelled.
City Hall, the Signal Hill Public Library, and the Signal Hill City Yard will be closed on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25.
These facilities will close at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, and be closed all day on Wednesday, January 1.
EDCO will not be performing residential trash collection on Wednesday, December 25 or Wednesday, January 1. There will be a one-day delay in service for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday customers only during each holiday week.
Street sweeping will not be performed on Wednesday, December 25 or Wednesday, January 1. If your street's sweeping day falls on that day, it will be swept on the next regularly scheduled sweeping day.

Congressman Alan Lowenthal invites you to a Community Coffee event at the Signal Hill Public Library Community Room, 1800 E. Hill Street, Saturday, December 14, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. There will be coffee and conversation about the issues facing our community and nation. Congressman Lowenthal will also provide a Congressional update and answer your questions.

Free Live Christmas Tree Pickup: January 2 and January 9
|
|
EDCO will collect Christmas trees and pine wreaths free of charge on Thursday, January 2, and Thursday, January 9. Please place your tree or wreath at the curb for collection on either date. Trees over four feet tall should be cut in half. Please remove all lights, ornaments, and watering bowls before putting out your tree. Residents of multi-family residential buildings should call EDCO at 562-597-0608 in advance to schedule a special pickup.

We didn't let the weather stop us from kicking off the holiday season! The 2019 Annual Tree Lighting took place at the Signal Hill Public Library this year. The community came together to light an indoor tree and celebrate with cookies, warm beverages, music, crafts, visits with Santa, and more. T

New: Text Us to Report City Maintenance Issues and Concerns
|

You can now text the City to report maintenance concerns like downed trees, flooded roads, abandoned items, potholes, park concerns, streetlight issues, and more.
Simply text "REPORT" to 562-330-1582
and follow the prompts. You will receive responses that will guide you through identifying and describing your issue, uploading photos, and sending directly to the City. You can also continue to report issues online via iWorq, our

EDCO Household Hazardous Waste Collection:
Schedule Changes
|
|
EDCO is making some changes to its Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event schedule for the holidays. Please note that the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event is cancelled on
Saturday, December 28.
The HHW Collection Center will be open as scheduled on Saturday, December 14 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. For more information, call the County Household Hazardous Waste Hotline at 888-253-2652.

Census 2020: Much More than Statistics
|

The U.S. Census is coming soon. Look for your U.S. Census Bureau invitation in the mail in March. A complete Census count means much more than statistics. Census data is used to determine where schools, roads, hospitals, child care centers, and senior centers should be built. Census data also determines how billions of dollars in federal money will be distributed. This money directly impacts Los Angeles County residents like you.

Question of the Month: How do I dispose of Fats, Oils and Grease?
If you're doing a lot of holiday cooking, you may be generating more kitchen fats, oils and grease (FOGs) than usual.
Please do not discard FOGs down your kitchen sink. These substances solidify in our sewer pipes and can cause drain and sewer backups. They can also severely damage our sewer system and cause environmental pollution. Instead, please recycle leftover FOGs. Collect used/discarded FOGs in a leakproof container. When the container is filled, you can drop if off for FREE recycling at EDCO, 2755 California Avenue. Please do not mix FOGs with any other oils.
