August 1st Deadline Approaching for 2018 ACE Nominations

If you know someone who deserves recognition for all their hard work, timing is running out for you to nominate them for our 2018 Awards for Chamber Excellence in the categories of Small Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and GovConnects Business of the Year.

Main Street Reopened in Ellicott City

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman and County Council Member Jon Weinstein have announced that Ellicott City's Main Street is now open to two-way vehicular and pedestrian traffic after being closed for nearly two months since the flash flood on May 27th.

Howard County's Summer Restaurant Week Is Here

Howard County's Summer 2018 Restaurant Week is upon us, and we can't wait to hit some of our favorite spots. From July 23rd - August 6th you can enjoy special restaurant week menus and deals at dozens of Howard County's most delicious eateries including tons of Chamber members!

  LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Updates to General Assembly Committee Leadership

While the November General Election is still to come, current Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. has released an updated roster of what the Leadership, Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs will likely look like in the House of Delegates for the next session. 

As we mentioned last week, Vanessa Atterbeary (D) Howard County, District 13, would become Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee among other changes. You can read the entire roster compiled by Public Sector Consulting Group, who lobbies on behalf of the Chamber here.

Congratulations to one of our newest members, Doceo Office Solutions, who has just acquired Saxe & Associates, Inc. as part of the process of hiring Kenneth Saxe as their new VP of IT Services.

Take Advantage of the Registered Apprenticeship Program

The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $50.5 million in grants to help states develop and implement strategies to support apprenticeship expansion and Maryland has received $2 million. Funds will be awarded to applicants so they may implement new and promising ideas, or adapt proven strategies at the systems or service delivery level, so as to expand the reach of RA programs in Maryland.
