K-12 teachers collaborate with Ryan Sprott, National Faculty member with the Buck Institute.  The Buck Institute specializes in Project Based Learning techniques and building educational opportunities to engage students in real-world experiences and problem solving.

District News

2018-19  Enrollment is in progress!
Online enrollment for the 2018-19 school year will continue through August 1st.  During this time, families will be able to enroll their student/s online by using the individualized code that was recently mailed to all returning and pre-registered students.  Anyone needing assistance is encouraged to stop by Mary Herbert Education Center where staff will be available:
  • July 23-26, 7:30 to 5:30, Monday-Thursday
  • July 30-August 1, 7:30 to 4:00, Monday-Wednesday
Any enrollments not completed before August 2nd will need to be done in person at Mary Herbert.
Payroll Information:
With the recent salary increase and change in the distribution of chargeable leave, please make sure your check and leave totals are correct. The salary increase will be reflected beginning with the following paycheck:
  • Nine-month employees September 15
  • Ten-month employees August 15
  • Twelve-month employees July 15
Also please contact Erica or Stephanie in payroll at 341-2428 if your personal and chargeable leave balances are not up-to-date by August 1. This is a manual process so please give ample time for the changes to be made.  

Mileage Reimbursement:
As of July 1, 2018, the district mileage reimbursement rate increased to .54½ per mile.

Convocation:
The Back-to-School Breakfast and Convocation will be held on August 15th. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 am and convocation will begin at 9:00 am at Emporia High School.

Preschool Enrollment:
There are still slots available for 3 and 4-year-old preschool students at Maynard Early Childhood Center. Simply go online to enrollment documents and print the application. Applications can then be returned to Maynard Early Childhood Center from 8:30-11:30. Call 341-2260 if you have questions.

Board Approvals
  • approved a lease extension agreement with the Flint Hills Mall LLC for 2018-19 in the amount of $34,014.00 for the Learning Center
  • approved to accept the grant in the amount of $9,662.00, from the Oral Health Kansas to add more water bottle filling stations in our schools
  • approved a partnership with the Fifth Judicial District Community Corrections Director Steven Willis, to provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on experiential learning outside of the regular school day
  • passed a resolution to publish a Board of Education membership vacancy
  • approved to publish a notice one time in the newspaper of the board member vacancy
  • approved the 2018-19 substitute handbook
Board Updates
  • Rob Scheib, assistant superintendent of business, provided the board with an update on the district Needs Assessment being conducted by HTK Architects.  The committee met to select construction firms who will move on to the next phase of making presentations to the selection committee. The committee will present its choice for Construction Manager At-Risk to the board on August 22, 2018
  • Kevin Case, superintendent of schools, facilitated a discussion with board members and cabinet members on board goals. The board will continue the discussion on board goals at the August 8 board meeting
