Help Leadership AIA with their Community Service Project
Each year, Leadership AIA does a Community Service Project and this year they've chosen Special Care.

In 1985, co-founders Pam Newby and Joe Dan Trigg responded to a community need and opened Special Care whose mission is " To nurture all children with and without special needs in safe, inclusive and supportive environments through education, therapeutic intervention and community acceptance."

Special Care provides on-site therapeutic services to children with special needs.  One of the areas the therapists need is a space for kids with sensory processing disorders, vision impairment, and seizures.

Leadership AIA is renovating an existing space at Special Care into a therapy room for these children and they need your help to with the project.  If you are willing to donate to the project, please CLICK HERE ... or bring your donation to the September AIA Luncheon.  Even $5.00 will make a difference.

Thank you to those who have already contributed to the project!

AXP Friendly Firms
The AIA Oklahoma AXP Friendly Firm program (formerly "intern friendly firm") began in 2006 to recognize those firms that go above and beyond to help intern architects advance in their career through leadership opportunities and assistance throughout the licensure process. The program is now called AXP Friendly Firms to highlight the importance of the Architectural Experience Program (AXP). AIA Oklahoma believes this program benefits both the interns and the firms that participate. It helps bridge the gap between education and experience by providing the tools necessary to achieve licensure. Firms benefit by creating an atmosphere of learning and professional growth, promoting professional development of staff so that more responsibility can be shared and fostering relationships among staff that create a positive environment which aids in retention of employees and a positive reputation among likely recruits. In the end the sharing of knowledge between those who have experience and those who are eager to learn benefits the profession as a whole.

AXP Friendly Firm is now an annual designation. In order to be named an AXP friendly firm, a firm must fill out the form below and score at least 15 points. Firms who score at least 18 points will be honored as an exemplary firm. AXP Friendly Firms will be announced and certificates presented during lunch at the AIA Oklahoma Conference on Architecture on Friday, October November 4th. Applications must be submitted to AIA Oklahoma no later than Friday, September 13 th .

NEWS OF INTEREST TO OUR MEMBERS
AIA FILM CHALLENGE - CAST YOUR VOTE!
The fifth annual AIA Film Challenge highlights the way architects have collaborated with civic leaders to build resilient and sustainable communities. Participants produced three to five minute documentary films for a chance to win up to $10,000.

We have two Oklahoma films entered this year!

Pivot Project & Gardner Architects / The EastPoint Project

The EastPoint Project on the northeast side of Oklahoma City is a reimagined outdoor mall given new life by the collaboration between the architects at Gardner, the developers at Pivot Project and the City of Oklahoma City. The east side of OKC has seen a lack of investment as a result of redlining and segregation that dates as far back as 1915. EastPoint aims to be a catalyst, to encourage public and private developers to invest in the east side, and to inspire the community to envision what the neighborhood could become by rebuilding, rehabilitating, and infilling empty lots. As a product of the partnership between Garnder, Pivot Project, the City of OKC, and the community of the east side, EastPoint hopes be the first of many new developments where ownership is a part of the leasing agreement, so that eastside business owners to have the opportunity to hold equity in the real estate to which they help give value.

LWPB / NW Library

What do books and architecture have in common? LWPB explored this concept in designing the Patience S. Latting Northwest Library. LWPB wanted to create something unique and open to hold both books and the everyday people who love them. Watch to learn how LWPB partnered with the community to design a library that reflects perspectives, history, and experiences of Oklahomans.

LWPB Education

Jones High School was in the middle of planning for renovation when the unthinkable happened: the school caught fire and burned down.  Faced with the immediacy of needing to rebuild the school. they turned to LWPB.  Watch how their team partnered with the school to design a school that is more than a building.
