CLASS OF 2018:
We are going to miss you, but the Success Coaches are looking forward to working with you as you begin your college journey!

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

 MEGAN D.

1. What college are you attending and why?
I chose Lincoln University because coming into the college process I never had a dream school, I was just lost. I did tours of the places I applied to. As I went around to visit colleges, none of the schools were really calling out my name until I went to Lincoln. The campus is smaller than average but still has a big feel, everyone is so welcoming there, the soccer coach also reached out to me so I'm playing Division II Soccer. I just felt as if I was home.

2. What part of college are you looking forward to the most?
I was born and raised in Montgomery Village, and have never lived in any other place my whole life. I am excited about living in a totally new place.

3. What's in your travel bag? What are you bringing with you to college?
This was kind of hard because I'm a bit of a hoarder. I put a lot of emotional value in things. I will bring ALL of my hoodies and sweaters, pictures of friends and family to hang up, a laptop, and my soccer stuff!

4. Megan's advice for Juniors:
My advice to class of 2019 is start your process early, I promise you you'll thank yourself later on. Senior year is tough, you're juggling school work and the college process. You'll feel sometimes it's the end of the world but I promise you'll get through it. Also take advantage of the resources you have, we are 1 of 3 schools who have college tracks. Use this resource don't be  afraid to reach out, you'll only be hurting yourself. Good luck c/o 2019!

SENIORS DO NOW!
  • PRIORITY: If you haven't yet done so, tell CollegeTracks staff which school you are attending in the fall, or come in for help making your decision!
  • Check your email and follow up on tasks assigned to you by your college!
  • Check your email and respond to communication for the CollegeTacks Success team!
  • MC Students: Submit your financial aid documents, complete the  new student orientation &academic orientation (EMAP), and schedule an appointment to meet with an MC counselor.
  • Check your MDCAPS account for any awards over the summer.
  • Complete Dream Act Documents (if applicable).
  • Encourage your 11th grade friends to join CollegeTracks!
We are going to miss you!

A Special Message to Seniors from Ms. Barclay:

Dear Seniors,

I am excited to share that I will be moving into a new position at CollegeTracks.  Though I will still work at CollegeTracks, I will no longer be working at Watkins Mill every day.  I will miss it. As you take your next steps and I take mine, know that I am proud of you for all you've accomplished.

The two and a half years I have spent at The Mill have been truly incredible.  When you joined the CollegeTracks family, you began a journey full of surprises, some challenges, and lots of success.  You remained focused on getting into college, often while juggling high school, extracurricular, and personal responsibilities.  You trusted me, laughed with me (sometimes at me), and made every moment special.  You have inspired me and for that, I am endlessly grateful.

As you prepare for your next chapter, remember:
  • Keep going, especially when it gets hard
  • Ask for help, because we all work better together
  • Celebrate your victories, big and small

I am so excited to hear about your future success.  And when I do, my tambourine is ready...

-Ms. Barclay
