Changes for the Upcoming School Year

We are excited to share a structural change to our program for the upcoming school year. Kindergarten through fifth grade will now comprise our Lower School, while sixth, seventh and eighth grade will be our Middle School. We believe that fifth grade students continue to need the foundational learning of a Lower School and will thrive from leadership opportunities that can be afforded being the oldest students in this cohort.

As a part of this change, sixth grade students will begin taking afternoon electives on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while seventh and eighth graders will continue with electives five days a week. We are thrilled that our sixth graders will have this new opportunity for cross-grade learning and social connections in Middle School.

While Wellness Wednesday, a cross-age learning and wellness program has been a successful experience for students and teachers alike, we have decided to replace this program with a new, Friday afternoon STEAM-focused elective experience across the grades. Stay tuned for more details.
Introducing Our New Makerspace

We are thrilled to share that beginning this fall Heilicher will have its very own Makerspace. A Makerspace is creative and innovative classroom where students can tinker, explore, design, and investigate. The Makerspace is part of our commitment to STEAM and inquiry-based learning, and will provide the tools necessary to support hands-on, student-driven projects. We have hired a Makerspace educator who will work closely with teachers to integrate Makerspace learning with all subject areas. Thank you to the many generous community donors who made this project possible.
