In preparation for the 2018-19 school year, the summer months at Lake Park High School have been focused on implementing key safety and security measures that were approved by the Board of Education during the May 21, 2018 meeting.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the newest addition to the district leadership team. Please welcome Timothy Cook who was hired on July 1 to serve as Lake Park's Safety and Security Coordinator. Tim is a familiar face to West Campus where he worked as the School Resource Officer (SRO) from January 2006 to May 2012. His career with the Roselle Police Department began in November 1996 and has included responsibilities as a patrol officer, detective, and most recently sergeant.
Before entering law enforcement, Tim's professional experience was in counseling. He has maintained both State of Illinois clinical licensure in counseling as well as national certification. His cross training in mental health and public safety will be an asset to the district as Tim leads overall security efforts and provides increased depth to threat prevention and response. He will help to promote a supportive culture that meets the social and emotional needs of students.
Although Tim's official start date is
Monday, August 13
, he has been actively involved in attending school safety training seminars and interviewing applicants for the four Safety Monitor positions that are critical to the new safety and security team. Each campus will be assigned two Safety Monitors; this hiring model represents an addition to the current hall monitor positions and SRO per campus.
Lake Park is currently undergoing districtwide installation of a protective safety film product on windows and doors, including classroom door sidelights. Furthermore, a new video surveillance system is being installed to upgrade to an IP-based architecture system, replacing the prior system from 2004. Both of these safety and security initiatives will be
completed this month
.
While there is more important action to take including ongoing student and staff training; further limiting entry access points; and establishing a Safety Committee; I felt these updates were significant to communicate before the first student attendance day on
Wednesday, August 15.

puses. Please remember to bring your registration packet.
Services include computer access, registration assistance, and interpretation service. Administrators from each campus will be present to process fee waiver and free lunch applications.
Online registration must be completed by Thursday, August 2 in order for your student to pick-up their textbooks and class schedules during orientation and textbook distribution.
As a reminder, office staff is available at both campuses to assist families Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Families may also contact the Registration Help Lines for assistance:

Immunization Reminders for 2018-19
Important health reminders for students entering Grades 9 and 12.
Grade 9
Illinois state law requires all students entering 9th grade to have a physical examination and a record of all required immunizations in the Nurses' Office.
Families are encouraged to drop off forms at East Campus, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; fax to (630) 520-1056 or scan and email to [email protected]. The required immunization forms can also be delivered during the upcoming freshman orientation and textbook distribution dates from August 6-8.

Grade 12
An Illinois health law requires that any student entering 12th grade and any student eligible to remain in school beyond grade 12 must show proof of having received two doses of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine. The first dose should be given on or after the 11th birthday and the second dose should be given on or after their 16th birthday. If the first dose is administered when the student is 16 years or older, only one dose is required.
Proof of vaccination will be accepted via drop off Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; fax to (630) 351-0710 or scan and email to [email protected]. The required immunization forms can also be delivered during the upcoming textbook distribution dates from August 6-8.

Lance Yearbook Spring Supplement Now Available
Supplement available during textbook distribution, August 6-8.
New in the 2017-18 school year, the
Lance
yearbook was published early for students to receive their yearbooks before summer break, share memories with their classmates and even exchange notes and signatures. Pre-ordered copies were distributed during the annual senior picnic and to all other grade levels during lunch periods in May.
However, due to the early release date and required deadlines, certain end-of-year events were featured in a supplement that is now available to students who purchased a yearbook. The "Make Your Mark" spring supplement, which has an adhesive edge to place directly in the yearbook, can be picked up by current Lake Park students during textbook distribution from August 6-8. Graduates can pick up their copy in the West Campus Activities Office during normal business hours. Notifications have been sent home to students in the Class of 2018 who purchased yearbooks.

| 2018-19 Implementation of Grade Level Teams
Pupil Personnel Services, Student Services teams to be assigned to students for four years.
Families are reminded that members of the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) and Student Services departments will be implementing a grade level team model for the 2018-19 school year and beyond. Traditionally, students have transitioned between the East Campus and West Campus and needed to develop new relationships with counselors and other assigned PPS members.
The new structure for 2018-19 features:
- Four grade level teams, each consisting of a dean, social worker and two counselors. Team members will work with their students for four years and will travel campuses with their class.
- Two reassigned counselors in new positions. One who will serve as an Education Support Counselor and the other who will focus on college and career readiness. Each of these positions will service students at both campuses.
- Campus-based nurses and psychologists. Lake Park's existing staff members in these roles will remain serving the campus to which they are currently assigned.
This model will allow the PPS members to build meaningful relationships as well as provide a level of specialty to better serve the various needs of our students and families. Counselors have prepared for this transition through ongoing professional development to strengthen their skills in all stages of high school development.

Save the Date: Wednesday, October 3
Lake Park West Campus to host "Breaking Boundaries" county wide program. 
Breaking Boundaries is a career exploration initiative for women that aims to spark interest in traditionally male (and typically higher paying) career paths.
Working in collaboration with several area manufacturers, engineers, and other local industries, Lake Park High School West Campus will host the third event of the Breaking Boundaries series on
Wednesday, October 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
in the auditorium and student cafeteria.
This installment will feature keynote speaker Kayleen McCabe of the DIY Network show Rescue Renovation followed by an Employer and Career Pathway Showcase. During the showcase, organizations will highlight in-demand careers and opportunities available.
This free event is open to the public and targeted to high school and college age women interested in learning about in-demand careers that are traditionally considered male dominated fields. Register today!

Families invited to attend Glenbard Parent Series Workshops.
The Glenbard Parent Series (GPS): Navigating Healthy Families is an educational consortium dedicated to presenting distinguished high-profile authors, clinicians, and educators who share their research-based knowledge and experiences.
The mission is to enhance students' social and emotional learning, encourage responsible decision-making, foster positive growth and development, and promote respectful relationships as we encourage conversation around the opportunities and issues facings families today.
GPS is a resource for parents, educators, students, and community members to foster real-world skills and traits to help students be better prepared for college, the workforce, and life.
Through a continued partnership with Glenbard High School District 87,
Lake Park families are invited and welcome to attend the (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families workshops.
Programs are offered free of charge and open to the public; no registration is required.
