Senior Spotlight : Andrew Gelina
An Article by Teacher Jennifer Belcher

Andrew is not, nor has he ever been a typical high school students.  He has never been a follow the crowd, fit the mold kind of guy. Often people look at Andrew, seeing only the workboots, Snap-on hat, and grease stained jeans, not knowing the true depth of his character, which is quite extraordinary.
His genuine concern for the wellbeing of his classmates and community is evident in his consistent willingness to help teachers, classmates, neighbors or even a total stranger in need.  One of Andrew classmates described him as the kindest, most good hearted person at Sanborn. Dianne McCarthy, Andrew's guidance counselor echos this sentiment, "Andrew has such respect for others that he will often ask how someone is doing, how their weekend was, how their sick child is, or any other question just to let them know he cares and is listening. While some might see a tough exterior, anyone who talks to him for longer than thirty seconds will see the compassion and kindness he has for others."  Pam Walsh, Director of Religious Education at St. Anne's Parish, added, "Andrew has been one of my favorite people since I first met him about 10 years ago. He is one of the most genuine and decent human beings I know. Ask him to do anything and he'll do it well and with that cute smirk on his face. You couldn't ask for a better friend."

In his spare time, of which there is very little, Andrew works with a special needs student, and is an active member of St. Anne's Parish in Hampstead.  When he does take a moment for himself, he will most likely be found fishing with his friends.

Andrew is in his second year at Seacoast School of Technology in the Auto Technologies Program and recently earned his ASE certification.  This year he won the state automotive technology competition and qualified to compete in the National Automotive Technology contest during the New York International Auto Show in April.

He is already an accomplished mechanic and according to his Welding teacher, Jack Kelly, "Andrew Gelina is an entrepreneur.  He has been running his own business landscaping while in high school. During Senior Day of Caring, I stopped by Andrew's project and was greeted by a hurricane of leaves.  Andrew had brought in his own leaf blowers and was attaching the lawn with a deafening roar form his backpack powered machines. I think he sent some of the leaves to Haverhill, all the while smiling broadly.  I will miss his sense of humor and good nature."

Andrew is planning to attend White Mountain Community College next year majoring in Diesel Heavy Equipment Technology where I am sure he will continue to excel.
Senior Spotlight : Morgan Riley
An Article by Teacher Holly Price
Morgan Riley has her future goals set on Business Administration and has worked hard to make sure she will be able to meet her personal expectations. She plans to attend SNHU this fall. She has been accepted into the "Degree in Three" Program. Morgan will be able to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in three years and then her MBA by 2022. She has taken the Marketing program at SST and was selected as a DECA Chapter Officer within the program. Working with DECA she has organized food drives, and business round tables for surrounding communities. Skills learned during these assignments are valuable experiences for her chosen career.
Morgan has been on the honor roll since her freshmen year and is on track to graduate Magna Cum Laude. She is also completing requirements to be a NH Scholar with a STEM emphasis. Morgan is also a member of the National Technical Honor Society. Through her SST program she has placed 2nd and 3rd on the state level in Buying and Merchandising Competitions. These awards qualified Morgan to attend an international conference.
Mrs. Cotter describes Morgan as a pleasant and respectful student who is motivated and proactive concerning her academics. She creates a positive learning environment for herself and her peers in the classroom. Morgan aspires to travel the US and abroad. We wish well with all her future endeavors.
Senior Spotlight : Hunter Holmberg
An Article by Teacher Jerry Wolbert
Anyone who love History, Political Science and hockey must also be an outstanding person and positive contributor to society!  Hunter is well versed on all of the issues and current events that face our country, as well as our world. He enjoys talking about those issues regularly and can do so in a manner that does not give away a bias or a political position, which is truly a talent.
All one needs to do is have a conversation with Hunter and his passion for all things history is immediately noticeable. During his time here at Sanborn, he has completed an extensive number of History and other Social Studies elective courses.
His other passion (I hope second to History) is hockey.  Hunter was a member of the Sanborn Hockey team before it was even a team!  He has been on the team since his Freshman year and has been instrumental in raising money to support the team.  He also worked regularly with the SRHS Boosters organization. Hunter speaks openly about all of the issues that the hockey team faced and demonstrates his support for the SRHS Hockey team for this past year as well as the future.  Though not a "bandwagon jumper", Hunter surprised me early this year by showing support for the new NHL franchise team the Las Vegas Knights. Who would have thought this new team would go to the Stanley Cup Finals? Hunter, that's who! He said at the beginning of the season they would go all the way!  (I'm be rooting for the Caps though, sorry Hunter) Hunter is also in the school band, he is the only french horn player currently in the band. Hunter has also made the Academic Board Honor Roll and was selected as a New Hampshire Scholar.
Here is what some of my colleagues had to say about Hunter:
Mr. Rand Duffy: "Hunter has been a great student in both woodworking and welding. He loves hands on. He is always happy. He listens and is good at anything we do".
Mr. Evan Czyzowski: "Hunter participated in the school trip to Poland two years in a row. He jumped into an opportunity for a new experience so he could explore and learn about a country he did not initially know a lot about. The second year we went on the trip, he took a lead role in the group helping others find their way. Hunter's curiosity and initiative have led him to take risks and find leadership roles".
Ms. Nicole St. Jean: "During our poetry unit for Senior English this year, Hunter really shined.  He has the ability to read a poem, think about it from his own perspective, and point out meaning and symbolism that the rest of us might not have noticed right away.  He was very thoughtful in his work for poetry and spoke eloquently about various poems we read as a class".

Hunter has made a commitment to Southern New Hampshire University where he is planning on majoring in... wait for it.... American History!

Senior Spotlight : Nick Frost
An Article by Teachers Caitlin Golino and Dr. Tim Young
Nick Frost has grown in the four years since he has been here, not only in height, but also as a student and a person. Nick ("Frosty" :-) is a student who is laser-focused on succeeding in school and in life after high school. Currently, Nick is enrolled in AP Biology, AP US History, and AP Calculus. He wanted to continue to challenge himself, especially in his senior year of high school. At Sanborn, he has enjoyed Biology, Junior English, Physics, Precalculus, and AP US History the most.

Nick is a student who cares about his community, peers, and others. He is the President of the LEO (Leadership, Experience, Opportunity) Club here at Sanborn Regional High School. This club is focused on service in the community, and Nick has dedicated two years and >150 hours of volunteering time to helping others. He is currently involved in building a stronger community and a place for mentorship at the Austin 17 House in Brentwood. He acts as a leader, helping to build a mentorship and education program for area students. Austin 17 House is meant to create a space with an accepting and safe atmosphere where students can go after school. Nick is also in Life of a Student and was part of the Justice Committee. Nick is also a valuable teammate on the hockey, soccer, and tennis teams at Sanborn.
Nick will attend Norwich University in the autumn. For nearly 200 years, Norwich University's guiding values and mission have helped create an atmosphere of excellence. They are the nation's oldest private military college. Afterward, Nick plans on joining the Navy, earning his officer's commission, and becoming a Naval pilot.  Hooyah, Nick!
Senior Spotlight : Abigail Brennan
An Article by Teacher Dianne McCarthy

Ever since I had Abigail Brennan her sophomore year, she has been incredibly driven, determined, and self-reflective. She is a student who exemplifies the growth mindset; she understands that the learning process is not perfect, and continues pushing herself until she is where she wants to be. Abby always takes responsibility for herself, her learning, and her roles at Sanborn.

In the classroom, Abby is attentive and immersed in the content she is learning. She always brings her best self to the discussion and she has seen that hard work pays off. Junior year, I was lucky to have Abby in class again in English Honors. She was definitely one of the most committed students, always asking questions and discussing how to improve her writing even more. She took risks and finished the year with an exemplary grade. At the end of the year, she was recommended for the NECCO English course for her senior year. During this same year, she also won the President's Award and Student of the Year in Math! Though English is one of her strong subject, other teachers see this same dedication and success in their classes.

Home Economics teacher Holly Price also spoke to Abby's strengths in the classroom: "As a student she is conscientious, hardworking, and a pleasure to have in class.  She is also a valued member of the student council."

Not only is Abby successful in the classroom, but in extracurricular activities as well. She is always involved in events that help bring the community together and strengthen student collaboration. It amazes me how much Abby does around the school while still maintaining her top 10% ranking in the senior class! In terms of character, she is well known among the staff.

Kerrie Alley, Abby's Yearbook teacher this year, remarked on Abby's positive contributions to her peers and the Sanborn community: "Abby is a great asset to our school community participating in many school activities throughout her four years.  This year Abby has been a member of the yearbook staff; working to put together a book of memories for her class to enjoy. Abby's drive to succeed and willingness to help others will guide her in her new path."

Eva Lang, Wellness teacher and coach, traces Abby's character over the years: "I have known Abby for the last four years. It has been a pleasure getting to know her.  Abby has grown to be a mature young lady when it comes to her future! What I like most about Abby is her honesty, sincerity, sense of humor, and how she speaks her mind- especially to her peers!  She is willing to lend a hand and help anyone at a moments notice. Abby has a great personality and I know she will be successful in her future endeavors! I wish her the very best!"

Abby will be attending Southern New Hampshire University for Math Education in the fall, and is unsure of whether she wants to work at the Elementary or Secondary level. I am fully confident that she will be an exceptional teacher and will instill all the hard-earned values in her students that she has gained here at Sanborn. I am so proud of her perseverance and willingness to stand against obstacles even when it's intimidating. With her strengths, there isn't anything she won't be able to handle after high school! Good luck, Abby!
End of Year Plans - Last Days of School For Grades 9-11
June 18-19 Will Be For Competency Recovery

Dear Parents/Guardians of Sanborn Regional High School Grade 9-11 Students,
In order to provide students with every possible opportunity to obtain full credit for all classes, we are offering a modified class schedule on the last two days of school, June 18 and 19. On these days, we will run 90 minute extended Focused Learning Time (FLT) periods.

FLT is typically offered as part of our regular schedule each day for 40 minutes and provides an opportunity for students to engage in personalized intervention, extension, and enrichment. During these end-of-year extended FLT periods, teachers will be available to work with students on projects for competency recovery.  Students who will not pass a course will have the opportunity to meet with their guidance counselor to complete a credit check, re-evaluate their course selections for the 2018-19 school year and to initiate the process for credit recovery.

Please understand that attendance at these extended FLT sessions is mandatory for all students not passing a competency or who have not finished any required work in one or more of their courses. These sessions will provide students with the opportunity for teacher supported competency recovery that will not be available over the summer.  If students are not able to make up the competency/credit at the end of the year, they will likely have to repeat the class next school year.

Students who are passing all of their competencies and who have completed all required work for their classes   will not be required to attend these extended focused learning opportunities. Please be aware, however, that bus transportation will only be available at the end of the regular school day at 2:10 PM. Please also note that the last regular day of school for grades 9-11 will be Friday June 15, with dismissal at 12:00PM.
Your child will be notified by their teacher(s) by Friday, June 15 at the latest if they will be required to stay for any and all of the extended FLT sessions. For questions about your child's grades, please contact your child's teacher(s) at (603) 642-3341.

The schedule for the days at the end of the year will be as follows:

Technology Device Collection
All students will be permitted to take their school-issued technology devices (chromebooks/laptops) home for the summer. These devices have been checked out by students through our school library system. Before the end of the year, all students will need to renew the check-out of their device with the school library. If students do not complete this task before the last day of school then the school will assume that the device has been lost or damaged and will pursue payment of the replacement cost for the device.
Please contact the office at (603) 642-3341 if you have any questions about this plan.

Did you know? From April of 2015 - May 2017, this fundraiser has helped us raise nearly $2400.00 for the PTO. Help us double that number by sharing this opportunity with your friends, your family, and your neighbors!
