    Natural Gas Basics / CO:  What You Should Know

Dispelling 3 myths about natural gas:

  • Natural gas is easy to burn. [Attendees will understand the combustible range and ignition sources of natural gas]
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO) is produced when natural gas is burned. [Attendees will know codes related to the installation of gas appliances in residence and workplace]
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a silent odorless killer. [Attendees will recognize the signs of carbon monoxide]

With 46 years of experience in the natural gas field, Don MacBride's current training responsibilites include:

Training of Dominion 350+ Operations personnel in two states. Dominion Energy Ohio (Northeast Ohio, including Lima, and Marietta), Dominion Energy (West Virginia), on company procedures, standards, policies, codes, basics of natural gas, natural gas utilization equipment, first response, leak investigations, gas regulation and measurement, carbon monoxide (CO) prevention and investigations, safety and other related areas. Don trains and assists safety forces such as: Local Fire and Police Departments to respond to natural gas emergencies. He has trained over 3000 fire fighters and first responders to respond safely to gas emergencies. Don also provides training and assistance for local building officials on natural gas procedures, standards and codes upon request. Seminars provided for local plumbing and HVAC contractors.

Don's certifications and affiliations include:

Certification in Environmental Technologies, March 1976, West Side Technical Institute. 

Mechanical Inspector Class V, State of Ohio (PO 1919) having demonstrated code and compliance knowledge through an examination process set forth by the State of Ohio pursuant to the provisions of the Administrative Code and requirements of Section 3781.10(E) of the Ohio Revised Code.

Joint Canadian Subcommittee/U.S. Technical Advisory Group (CSST); Voting Member.

Chairman of the Canadian Standards of America (CSA) LC 4 Technical Committee (2005).

Committee Member of the Building Energy Codes and Standards Committee (BECS), American Gas Association.

Alternate Voting [ASC Z223] Committee Member, Representing the American Gas Association, for the National Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 54, (2018 edition).
