Joined by pianist Ekaterina Ganelina, Ms. Gerzmava’s program will feature
works by Glinka, Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev, Hahn and Fauré
as well as arias from Anna Bolena , La Forza del Destino , and Il Trovatore

Ms. Gerzmava’s appearance at Carnegie Hall is part of six-month
world tour with stops in Moscow, New York, St. Petersburg, Paris,
London, Tel Aviv and Toronto
NEW YORK, NY — Grand Prix winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, soprano Hibla Gerzmava returns to Carnegie Hall, with pianist Ekaterina Ganelina , for a recital in Stern Auditorium/Perlman Stage on Friday, November 1, 2019, at 8:00 pm . Her program—part of a six-month, seven-city world tour with stops in Moscow, St. Petersburg, New York, Paris, London, Tel Aviv, and Toronto—will feature art songs by such Russian masters as Glinka, Rimsky-Korsakov and Prokofiev coupled with those by Hahn and Fauré set against a backdrop of arias by Verdi and Donizetti. Ms. Gerzmava’s appearance at Carnegie Hall is presented by the Cherry Orchard Festival.

Ms. Gerzmava last performed at Carnegie Hall in 2017 as a soloist with the Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra. In April 2020, she will be featured in the role of Liu in the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Puccini’s Turandot and will return in the title role of Aida in the 2020/2021 season.

About Hibla Gerzmava
Soprano Hibla Gerzmava , Grand Prix winner of the Tchaikovsky International Competition in 1994, has performed in recital and on opera stages worldwide to much critical acclaim. She has made numerous appearances at such prestigious venues as the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Teatro Comunale di Firenze in Florence, and at the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo. 

Much in demand by many of today’s leading opera houses, Ms. Gerzmava has appeared with such companies as the Metropolitan Opera (Stella and Antonia in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann and Mimi in Puccini’s La bohème ), Covent Garden (Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Mimi in La bohème ), the Royal Opera House (Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni ), Palais Garnier (Vitellia in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito ) and Bayerische Staatsoper and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, where she debuted in both houses as Mimi in La bohème . Additional career highlights include being a featured soloist in Janáček’s Glagolithic Mass conducted by Jiří Bělohlávek at the BBC Proms, a debut at T eatro alla Scala in the title role of Anna Bolena, and with Mariinsky Theatre’s tour to Japan, performing the role of Liù in Puccini’s Turandot in Tokyo.

Ms. Gerzmava is also the recipient of the highest Russian theatrical award — the Golden Mask — as well as Casta Diva Critics Award and the Moscow Government Award for achievement and contribution to the world of arts and culture.
