Dear Neighbors,
Area Central Detectives are investigating a rash of cell phone thefts in our community. In each incident, the offenders approach the victims and forcibly grab cell phones from their hands. The offenders then flee the scene in a black sedan vehicle. These incidents are occurring in retail shops and on the street.
Detectives working on the case believe that the same particular group of individuals are committing these crimes in our neighborhood and throughout the city

We can work together as a community and stay on top of this during this holiday season.
- Please be extra vigilant about your phone while police track down the offenders.
- If you have any video footage or information regarding these incidents, please send them to the 18th District CAPS office at caps.018district@chicagopolice.org. They can send the footage to the detectives assigned to the case.
- If you were a victim of a cell phone theft, please report it to 911, and help the investigators.
Incident times and locations, all of which occurred in afternoon hours:
- 100 block of W. Armitage, Tuesday, December 3
- 1300 block of W. Fullerton, Tuesday, December 3
- 2300 block of N. Lincoln, Wednesday, December 4
- 2200 block of N. Clark, Wednesday, December 4
- 600 block of N. Wells, Wednesday, December 4
- 0-100 block of E. Walton, Thursday, December 5
- 900 block of N. Michigan, Thursday, December 5
- 1000 block of W. North, Thursday, December 5
About the Offenders:
2-4 Male, African Americans, 5'10"-6'00", 150-180lbs, 17-20 years of age
What you can do:
- Always be aware of your surroundings.
- If confronted by an assailant, remain calm.
- Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, tattoos, acne, limps, etc).
- Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people
- including any vehicle description and license plate information.

What to do if Your Phone is
Lost or Stolen
We were made aware that there are new scams that attempt to steal your Apple ID or Google Play password in order to unlock the phone and retrieve valuable and personal information. These are
fake attempts by scammers so please be aware and do not provide your information. You can read about it further in
this article. In the unfortunate event that you are a victim of a stolen phone, we recommend the following tips to protect yourself from further compromising personal information.
Here are key actions to take:
- Seek and Destroy - Try locating your phone using a secure "find my phone" service and erase information from your phone.
- Change Important Passwords - Immediately change financial and shopping accounts with stored credit card information.
- Call your Institutions - Inform and notify your bank institutions, so they are aware and can monitor your account.
- Make a Police Report - Notifying the police launches an official investigation and will be needed in order to freeze your credit, in the event that your credit has been compromised.

Architect Richard Wilson, of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, an AIA award winner, will present the case for including public parks in Chicago's mega developments -- in our "new neighborhoods." In addition to being the lead planner for the Pullman National Monument, and the Riverwalk, Wilson and his firm have been partnering with me, community and civic leaders to propose the North Branch Park and Preserve adjacent to Lincoln Yards, where a massive residential, retail and office development is slated to replace an industrial corridor.
As they approved plans for Lincoln Yards and The 78 – and TIF districts to fund new infrastructure on each site – the Emanuel administration did
not
leverage new public parks. Instead, City planners asked the developers to include "privately owned public spaces." But experience shows that these "POPS" are no substitute for public parks.

Shared Cost Sidewalk Program

The 2020 Program opens to new applicants on
January 7th, 2020 starting at 6:00 am and closes at 5:59 am on January 8th, 2020.
The
Shared Cost Sidewalk Program
is a voluntary program in which property owners share the cost of sidewalk repair with the City. Thousands of Chicagoans have been a part of this popular program, taking advantage of the low cost, exceptional value, and ease of participation. The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program cost per square foot charged to property owners is well below what a private contractor would charge. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities may qualify for a further discounted rate.
Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Early applications prior to the start of the program will not be accepted. The number of participants is based on availability of funds. The program typically reaches capacity quickly, so you are encouraged to apply early. Please note that if you applied for the program in previous years, you must apply again in 2020 if you wish to be considered for the 2020 program. The property owner’s contact information and the property’s complete address are required (first name, last name, address, city, zip, phone, and email address if available) at the time of request.

GoCPS Application Deadline Extended
Extended Through December 13
The GoCPS application deadline has been extended to December 13th, 2019. Families can apply to Pre-K, Elementary, and High Schools using the online application or a paper application that can be downloaded from the site. The online application is highly recommended and available in English and Spanish

modified working hours during the holidays, we will be open from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. beginning Monday, December 23rd through January 1st. We will also be closed December 24th-26th, as well as on New Years Day. We will resume with our regular hours Thursday, January 2.
