Executive Director's Message - Jenny Berg
As a nonprofit leader, do you know where you can go to connect with peers, offer advice, and seek counsel all in a safe, confidential space?

  • "It was so empowering to be able to openly talk to people about the concerns of my agency without judgement or concern for it being spread around the agency."
  • "I think this is well run and offers an opportunity to meet quality people, some experienced, some not experienced, and an opportunity to get good insight from leaders from other industries.”
  • "I feel more confident in my work since I have the opportunity to get feedback from my peers."

Our Leaders Circle program just wrapped up, and this is just a sample of the program feedback. This signature peer to peer coaching program was especially important during these past few months as our nonprofit leaders navigated uncharted waters. As a result of months of connecting with peers in a circle, participants realize they are not alone... they have a trusted network of peers to lean on and learn from.
"It was really helpful to continue our Circle during the pandemic. So much changed in such a short period of time and our Circle content was hugely helpful. I gained new resources that I would not have known about otherwise specifically related to COVID-19.”

"My Circle has been a great resource over the past several years. Through it I have learned much, relied on the support of colleagues who I now also call friends, and found a safe, confidential place to share the persistent challenges as a NFP CEO.”
We recognize 2020 is a challenging year in so many ways, and we want to ensure our nonprofit leaders take the opportunity to be part of this program. Thanks to the generosity of our Leaders Circle sponsor, Flynn & Company, CPA & Business Consultants, we are offering special pricing for our Sept 2020 through May 2021 Leaders Circle of just $50/person.  Register Here by 7/31/20, the program begins in September.

"Leaders Circles provide the best opportunity for peer learning in a safe space."

We thank our sponsor and our circle facilitators for investing in you, and we thank YOU for investing in yourself. Leaders Circles (circles available for:
Executive Director/President/CEO, CFO/COO/VP or equivalent, CDO, Development Director or equivalent, CHRO or equivalent, CMO, MARCOM Director or equivalent, Program Director

WELCOME to the Leadership Council Team
We are thrilled to share that Jack FitzGerald has moved into the full time role of Program Manager for our BOLD - Board Orientation + Leadership Development program. This is Jack’s “why” he joined Leadership Council and leads our BOLD program:

“Over Zoom, with a well-known Cincinnati consultant she said, “Jack, Leadership Council has an opportunity to model the way for the diversification of nonprofit boards.” She gave affirmation to why I believe the Leadership Council’s work through BOLD is meaningful. I was inspired because she believed in our vision for change. The next BOLD cohort is the largest yet. They represent over 30 organizations joining the Leadership Council to improve upon the composition and competencies of Greater Cincinnati nonprofit boards.”
Jack has been working very hard this summer to transition this program into a virtual e-learning platform and our BOLD 3 class will begin August 20, with a great group of participants.  We also welcome Anne Hugenberg, a University of Cincinnati Marketing summer intern to our team to help with our BOLD marketing.

Find out more about BOLD in the BOLD monthly newsletter which features nonprofits who have board openings, BOLD alumni, case studies and more!

The Association of Fundraising Professionals – Greater Cincinnati Chapter Releases 15 Additional Membership Scholarships
AFP - Greater Cincinnati is releasing 15 additional 2020 membership scholarships in response to the Coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the fundraising industry. With the likelihood of a recession upon us many organizations are reducing or cutting professional development budgets, including membership in professional organizations such as AFP. In light of this, the Greater Cincinnati AFP Chapter has created a fund to sponsor 15 scholarships to be awarded in 2020 for a one year membership in AFP. These scholarships are non-renewable and will be awarded based on need of the applicant. Prior to submitting this application the CEO of your organizations will be required to sign the application to confirm they are aware of this application and will be supportive of your participation in the Chapter.

Should you be awarded one of these scholarships, a requirement of receipt is that you volunteer with an AFP Board Committee for the entire year of your scholarship. There are many ways to participate, and someone on the Board will reach out to you upon receipt of your funds to discuss options. The application is available here and is due by July 31st. In addition to this application please provide a cover letter sharing details about you and your need for this scholarship as well as a headshot for promotional purposes to admin@afpcincinnati.org.

There is no instructional guide for fundraising during a global pandemic. Our chapter is learning and growing together to meet these new challenges. Should financial hardship determine your ability to join or renew your membership we invite you to apply for a 2020 COVID-19 Membership Scholarship Application.

The Four-Seven, Inc.
The Four-Seven’s mission is assisting the incarcerated and their families with resources and tools that lead to transformed lives. The resilience to pivot and reimagine what that looks like, in the midst of a pandemic, requires relying on skills cultivated throughout a career of learning and leading. Fortunately, coming from corporate cultures that accentuated relationship building, has helped me prioritize sustaining existing (...even though sometimes NEW), relationships with staff and partners - during this time of “social (physical) distancing.” As Executive Director, I’ve found this to be such a time of DISCOVERY! How do we motivate INCREASED thinking outside of the box? How do we continue reaching out, while ensuring we are also focusing internally on team members (who are also gravely impacted)? Now more than ever, investing in caring for others in the way they currently need to be cared for, has been crucial...continually changing; and requiring continual FLEXIBILITY!   Read More
