Did You Know?
W
ilmington is located in the middle of one of the most historic routes in the Northeast. The Molly Stark S
cenic Byway follows the path made by General John Stark in 1977. The trail was named after the generals wife.
The modern use of Route 9 dates back to 1907 with the beginning of the "pleasure driving era".
Now the scenic route is widely used for transport but can be enjoyed as the same "ideal tour" on Route 9. The Molly Stark Byway Commission has made a series of 8 monuments along the route (shown below) featuring pertinent local history. On the route just east of Wilmington is Molly Stark State Park where there is a 1.7 mile hiking loop, camping, mountain biking, horseshoes and volleyball.
